Wishing You Blue Skies….

JOYCE TEETOR Florida Suncoast Chapter

Joyce Teeter, a resident of St. Petersburg since 1956, departed this world on September 21, 2009. She was born in Hagerstown, Indiana and attended Holton Arms School where Jackie Kennedy was a classmate. Joyce later went on to graduate from Indiana University. Friends and relatives remember Joyce as a marvelous athlete and a person who enjoyed living a full life. She enjoyed sailing and water skiing. Joyce loved animals and was a noted equestrian having won awards on Arabian mounts.

She was a skilled pilot and, as a young girl, enjoyed flying with her father in his

plane. She held both a private and commercial license for single engine and multiple engine planes. She was one of the first women to have been offered a position by a major commercial airline as a pilot. During her lifetime, she held a position as a Delta flight attendant as well.

Joyce joined the 99s and the Florida Suncoast Chapter on November 16, 1966. Although her final few years kept her housebound, Joyce kept in contact with her 99s through our newsletter mailings and also offering to host meetings at her home on Treasure Island.

She is survived by her sons David Dyson of Cashiers, NC, Alfred Dyson III of Sylva, NC and Scott Dyson of St. Petersburg; her brother David Teetor of Naples and her constant and loving companions, her dogs Denver and Amber. Joyce has been interred in the family burial plot in Hagerstown, Indiana. She now soars with eagles.

Vice Chairman’s Corner—continued

I am back in Florida, but have my hands full with settling Mom in, running our business, getting things in order for seasonal ten-ants, and settling in myself. My two cats and dog flew ourselves to FL from SW PA on Sunday Oct 11, and had a great trip. Stayed above the clouds at 8000 feet, then stayed home three days and took a commercial flight to NY to pack up my mom’s car, and drive her to FL. We left Sunday, Oct 18th and arrived in FL the 19th. I am working on getting her internet and A/C- heat going for the winter, plus all the rest of the stuff. Too busy for one person to think about.

Enjoy the Summit and don’t forget to sign up for the booth. Meeting new people and prospective members is just too much fun!

“Amelia” Movie Opens . . . . . And our chapter is there. . . . .

Florida Suncoast 99s covered all the bases in representing the Ninety-Nines and our chapter in the Tampa Bay area!

A preview showing of the movie on August 23rd was attended by CC Marilyn Shafer, Sophia Payton, Dima Hoabsh, Barbara Strachan, CT Jeanne Burklund, 33 1/3 Michelle Burklund and 49 ? Chris Burk-lund. With free tickets and VIP seating offered by Allied Advertising, Marilyn presented a delightful talk on "Amelia”, how the 99s organization was http://wmnf.org/programs/gridformed and selected its name as well as information about scholarships available to girls (Jesse Woods Scholarship) and women (Amelia Earhart Scholarship). A half-page handout with our chapter’s website and email address was distributed by Dima to more than 30 women and girls. Dima arrived in an astronaut costume and Sophia as "Amelia" complete with leather jacket, pants, helmet, goggles and white scarf. Each attending member was intro-duced to the crowd. Sophia had them waving back at her as she stood up with helmet and goggles and the audience cheered after her flight bio of winning air races was announced.

These same 99s set up at the Regal Theater, Pinellas Park, on Saturday where Dima and Michelle stole the show. Dima in astronaut costume and Michelle dressed in goggles, scarf and helmet passed out Ninety-Nines’ brochures and our chapter website info to girls interested in the Jesse Woods Scholar-ship. The word is out about the 99's and our scholarships.

On that same Saturday, Oct. 24th, Marilyn went to WMNF 88.5 Community Radio to be interviewed on the Women’s Show along with Bobby Lasher and Pat Ohlsson who attended via telephone. It may be ready for viewing the end of next week.

http://wmnf.org/programs/grid scroll down to Schedule, then to Women's page on Sat. In archives select 10/24/09. The download screen will appear and it opens easily with RealPlayer.

For those of you who didn't attend, you missed out on lots of fun. You still have time to get involved by volunteering to help at our booth at the AOPA Convention.

Thanks to Dima for getting the ball rolling.
