Information• This year, Challenge Week will be based on

our school’s three main themes: Enterprise, International and Outdoor Challenge.

• During tutorial this week, your tutor will show you the various challenges on offer. A copy of this information is also available on the school website for you to look at with your parents.

• In your assembly this week, the theme leaders will present you with further information regarding Challenge Week 2012.

Information continued• During the week beginning Monday 7th

November, you will need to make your Challenge Week choices online (during tutorial time, break, lunch and before/after school). The deadline is Friday 11th.

• You will need to make three choices based on the three activities you would like to do – there are no preference choices this year. You must choose three activities you want to do – you could be allocated any one of your three activity choices.

Outdoor Adventure

Adventure SportsPrice: £160

Canoeing and KayakingPrice: £170

Challenges include:

• Canoeing and kayaking on rivers and estuaries in South-East Cornwall

• Expert tuition from experienced instructors

Duke of Edinburgh Price: £30

Challenges include:

• Bronze 2 day and 1 night expedition;• Silver 3 day and 2 nights expedition.

SkiingPrice: £125

Challenges include:

• You will be taught to ski by experienced and friendly skiing instructors at the local ski slope – your aim is to ski off the top by the end of the week;

• You will learn tricks and techniques to enable you to become an accomplished skier;

• Have fun snow tubing, tobogganing and perhaps a little snow boarding too!

Out and AboutPrice: £90

Challenges include:

• Outdoor challenge at Woodlands • Discover wildlife at Paignton Zoo• Team Building skills at Tor Bridge• Go crazy at Crealy• Relax on the River Dart

Wild and WonderfulPrice: £110

Challenges include:

• Have fun at Flambards • Discover wildlife at Paignton Zoo• Go wild at Woodlands• Tree Surf in Tavistock• Relax at Quaywest

FishingPrice: £85

Challenges include:

Learn about the skill and techniques of sea angling and coarse fishing, visit the fish market, tackle shops and at the end of the week, you have your own fishing equipment. During the week you will be fishing on the coast and on inland lakes.

Horse-riding Price: £180

Challenges include:

Horse-riding for the week will involve learning about the preparation and techniques needed for riding. The group will experience treks over moorland, in and around the paddocks.

Basketball campPrice: £10

Challenges include:

A week of brilliant Basketball skills, drills and games. Develop, compete and become a star basket-baller like Mr Loveridge.

SurfingPrice: £140

Challenges include:

An awesome week of learning to surf with the qualified instructors from Discovery surf based at Bigbury sands. All equipment is provided, so you can totally carve up some wicked waves!

Cornish Coast to Coast ChallengePrice: £150

Challenges include:Going from one side of the County to the other using just person power! They’ll be a mix of extreme sport activities, visit to Eden project & hiking to get from Padstow to Fowey. Each night the group will either stay in a hostel or camp under the Cornish skies! Week will start with coasteering/surfing at Harlyn Sands and end with canoe down the River Fowey!

Team SocialPrice: £ 125

Challenges include:Excellent outdoor activities to build confidence with teamwork and communication skills. The group will experience: kayaking, camping, bushcraft, sailing, and laser tag.

Enterprise

The Only Way is Tor Bridge (TOWIT)Price: £45

Challenges include:• Have fun learning and developing skills in hair-

styling , nail art and make-up application. • Learn how to look after your mind, body and soul

with professional cheerleading, Zumba, aerobics and yoga classes. We may even go for an afternoon swim!

• Singing, dancing and acting – we’ll put on our own talent show.

• Enjoy a girly day out – shopping, lunch and a chick flick!

Getting CraftyPrice: £10

Challenges include:

• You will be learning to do simple cross stitch developing the technique to achieve your own project (small picture, cards or key rings).

• You will have the opportunity to learn how to make Dorset buttons too!

• Have fun creating small craft ideas which can become gifts for family and friends.

Come glaze with mePrice: £40

Challenges include:• You will be taught to create various ceramic

pieces using a variety of new methods and experience firing techniques outdoors with International potters at Tor Bridge High.

• You will learn to use a potters wheel, make a slab pot, hand build a sculpture & the exciting art of Raku firing & sawdust/pit firing.

• Have fun using clay, throwing on a wheel and enjoying the art of decorating using glazes!

Jewellery makingPrice: £10

Challenges include:

• You will be taught to make individual jewellery & bracelets/hair pieces in a friendly environment. Your aim is to make a set by the end of the week having learnt new joining skills.

• You will learn tricks and techniques to enable you to become an accomplished jewellery maker;

• Have fun fixing metal hooks/clasps, embroidery thread and macrame knots and beads.

Textile Art TrailPrice: £70

Challenges include:

• You will learn tricks of the trade with textile artists in their studios practising today who make a living from their work.

• Work with textile artists in their studio, visit galleries to experience textile art first hand and make your own textile piece using fabric, threads and all manner of materials.

Let’s go fly a kitePrice: £10

Challenges include:

• You will be taught how to design and make a flyable kite.

• You will learn tricks and techniques to enable you to become an accomplished kite maker;

• Have fun flying, racing and kite stunts too!

Traditional craftsPrice: £5

Challenges include:

• You will learn how to knit, French knit, crocheting and weaving.

• You will make articles for your selves or presents for others. Even set up and run your own business!

• Have fun learning each of these skills throughout the week. This activity is open to beginners to experienced crafters!

Experimental PhotographyPrice: £30

Challenges include:

• You will be taught an amazing array of techniques that will have everyone wanting to know more!

• You will learn tricks and techniques to enable you to become an accomplished photographer;

• Have fun creating Photogram’s cameraless photography, Pinhole & scanned images, Photoshop CS5 & Digital images.

International

SPAINPrice: £499

Challenges include:

• Travel by train to London and fly to Malaga• Historical tours of Malaga and Granada in the South of Spain.• Visit a science museum, medieval castle, Roman castle and much, much more!• Experience flamenco dancing and tapas tasting.• Spend the final day relaxing at a water park

FRANCEPrice: £379

Challenges include:• You will spend the week in France experiencing

French language, history and culture.• Visit the World War I battlefield.• A day in Paris – including river boat cruise, seeing all the sights and climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower.• Spend the last day at Eurodisney with all the

International Cookery

Challenges Include:

• Trying your hand at cooking delicious dishes from around the globe• Sample different foods from different countries• Experts invited in for exciting workshops!

Arts Ambassadors

Challenges include:

• You will be working in a local primary school• Performing to others• Working as a team• Creating props, costume and set

International Soccer School

Challenges Include
