The aim of this activity is firstly to be a fundraiser, but we hope it might also help raise awareness of just some of the everyday challenges many disabled people face. This is a physical activity. Please be sure to bear in mind your own safety, and the safety of others. If in doubt, please contact us before going ahead. WHAT? (THE BASIC IDEA) Spend a day being ‘disabled’ by not being able to use your arm as you normally would. CASH IN (THE FUNDRAISING BIT) Be sponsored per hour spent without the ‘normal’ use of your arm. Have a paper sponsor form and a JustGiving page – promote both to everyone you know. HOW? Put your arm into a sling (ie permanently bent), or tie a stick to your arm (so it’s permanently straight). You will need a ‘buddy’ for the day – somebody that can help you out, keep you safe, and make sure you don’t cheat! Do whatever you normally do (and note how it feels when you need help from someone else). Collect the sponsor money! WANT TO GO BIGGER? Have a group of people doing this all at the same time. Make up a list of fun challenges for people to complete. Increase the length of time – Can you do a 24 hour challenge? More than 24 hours?! Raise more awareness by taking photos of anything interesting, funny or challenging and then tell people about your experiences (blog, Facebook, JustGiving updates, articles for church or website). Try and get a local paper interested in taking some photos and promoting what you’re doing. WANT TO GO DIFFERENT? Borrow a wheelchair – no cheating by getting out and walking! Borrow crutches or a walking stick and keep one foot off the ground Wear eye shades and have your buddy guide you around Wear noise cancelling headphones REMINDER – Please don’t try this without a buddy to keep you safe.
