REAL ESTATESweeny’s history is as unique as its location. 5 miles south of 35 off of FM 1459, it is nestled in what was once a dense forest on the coastal plains of Brazoria County. First settled in 1833 by John Sweeny and his family, Sweeny is rich in history. From the early days of plantations to the modern day commerce of the PetroChemical business, cattle ranching and industrial supply, Sweeny has made a mark on Brazoria County.
Sweeny boasts one of Brazoria County’s best independent school districts along with safe neighborhoods. We pride ourselves in our rural lifestyle. The area is full of outdoor activities such as fishing or boating, hunting, bird watching, and bike riding. Local sports are definitely a hometown experience with baseball, football, basketball,

tennis, golf and now soccer as a school sport. Sweeny boasts the Backyard Park, along with Chick Anderson and MLK Park. We have several eateries along with a full service grocery store, Stewart’s, Sweeny Hospital, Assisted Living at the Fountains, and a rehab and nursing facility known as Sweeny House.
With the economic down turn of 2008, Sweeny only suffered a slight reduction in home prices. The economy is heating back up with the expansion of Phillips 66, Chevron Phillips, Sweeny Industrial Park, and Tenaris, and the rise of housing prices over the last three years continue to give home owners a safe investment. As we have seen our home values rise, Sweeny welcomes newcomers every day to make Sweeny their hometown, too.
This 78 acre park is located on Hwy 523 in Sweeny, Texas, just minutes from Phillips 66, ChevronPhillips, Dow Chemical, BASF, and South Texas Nuclear Facilities—just to name a few of the convenient locations.
Houston is only 55 miles away, Dallas is 290 miles, Austin is 210 miles and San Antonio is 230 miles. Lake Jackson airport is 23 miles from the park and Bay City Airport is 19 miles away.
The Union Pacific Rail Road runs less than two miles from the park. Three major highways are within minutes,
Hwy 35, Hwy 36 and Hwy 288. This property has been zoned for lite industry.
Two companies have completed construction and are in operation—Apache Oil and Phillips 66.

The school is the heartbeat of the future. The classroom is where our children are taught and nurtured and where the foundation for all future learning is laid. The faculty, staff and administration of Sweeny ISD see the task of educating the next generation of citizens as a high calling. The ultimate goal for all district stakeholders is to develop well-rounded students who will be able to make positive contributions to society and the communities in which they live.
Currently, Sweeny ISD serves approximately 2,000 students housed on one high school campus, one junior high campus, and one elementary campus composed of a primary section (PreK-2) and an intermediate section (Gr. 3-5). Sweeny ISD students have a rich history of successfully achieving both academically and athletically. In 2015-2016, all three Sweeny ISD campuses continued to showcase their academic knowledge and abilities by performing at the top of the competition at their respective area UIL Academic Meets.
Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, Sweeny ISD in conjunction with Chevron Phillips, Phillips 66, and Brazosport College formed the Chevron Phillips–Phillips 66 PetroChemical Academy, allowing students to earn college credits towards industrial trades certificates (including, but not limited to, welding, pipe fitting, process technology, instrumentation, etc.)

while still attending high school. The program received national attention by appearing in a Wall Street Journal article.
The district’s Board of Trustees adopted a vision for the future which sees Sweeny ISD becoming the “district of choice” for families in Brazoria County. The district has limited open enrollment allowing for transfers from outside the district boundaries. The Board selected goals to help the district achieve the vision, and those goals address:
In May, 2014, voters approved a bond package which will allow for major renovations and improvements with the district’s facilities including new computer labs, technology infrastructure, safety vestibules, gyms, and a baseball/softball sports complex. The baseball/softball sports complex was completed in May 2015. All other construction projects have since been completed. Sweeny ISD has indeed set its sights on becoming Brazoria County’s district of choice!

Located on 156 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in Lake Jackson, Texas, Brazosport College has served as the school of choice for students in southern Brazoria County since 1968.
The broad range of courses offered at Brazosport College addresses diverse educational objectives. Those students plan-ning to pursue a bachelor’s degree can enroll in academic classes, as well as courses in major fields of study, which will transfer to four-year schools.
Brazosport College is one of the few community colleges in the state with the authority to offer a Bachelors Degree in Applied Technology (BAT). BC’s BAT program offers two ma-jors, including a BAT in Industrial Management and a BAT in Health Services Management. Students seeking certification or a degree in an occupational/technical field will find courses leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree in a wide va-riety of disciplines. The college also offers degree or certificate options in the ADN and LVN healthcare fields, as well as a variety of additional programs.Through partnerships between area employers and the college, students also are able to put their knowledge to work close to home.
The process technology program offered at Brazosport Col-lege enables students to build skills to be successful in the chem-ical industry, but also provides students with skill sets that will broaden their career opportunities.
The BASF Center for Process Technology building houses classrooms and a plant trainer for the chemical process technol-
BRAZOSPORT COLLEGEogy program, while the Dow Academic Center serves a variety of college and community events, such as commencement. Oth-er buildings, such as the Byron and Sandra Sadler Health Pro-fessions/Science Complex, a Student Pavilion and a revitalized library opened in Fall 2011. The Sadler building houses Bra-zosport College’s nursing program, as well as science and math courses. Most recently, Brazosport College dedicated its Freeport LNG Crafts Academy and the new BCPC Welding Technolo-gies Lab.
In 2012 and 2014, The Aspen Institute ranked Brazosport College among the top 10 community colleges in the United States. Most importantly, however, Brazosport College is com-mitted to students’ success and has implemented initiatives to assist students in achieving their goals. Through endeavors made possible by the Brazosport College Foundation and Achieving the Dream, a variety of programs are available utilizing partner-ships between the college and the community it serves to assure student success.
Brazosport College is located conveniently close to the com-munities of Angleton, Clute, Freeport, Richwood, West Colum-bia, Sweeny, Brazoria and Surfside Beach. The campus is only 45 minutes away from Houston and Galveston.

Located in Sweeny, the Petrochemical Academy is designed to provide occupational education instruction. Students from Sweeny ISD, as well as Columbia-Brazoria ISD, have the opportunity to receive dual credit at Brazosport College while attending high school. In 2015, Phillips 66 and Chevron Phillips Chemical made a combined contribution of $1.6 million for the occupational educational program, which offers courses in process technology, instrumentation, millwright and pipefitting.
The program allows local high school grads to land high-paying jobs without leaving the area. Phillips 66 continues to support the academy and its growth through multiple avenues.
“We have a lot of talented people in this area, and the Petrochemical Academy allows them to receive valuable training while staying close to home,” said David Erfert, General Manager of the Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery. “This initiative allows us to support the community while also strengthening our workforce.”

Sweeny Rotary’s motto is “Ser-vice Above Self”. Service proj-ects are local and international. Fundraisers include brisket
and rib sales in October, fajita plates in May and the Christmas parade in Decem-ber. Dues are $550 per year. Meetings are held every Thursday at noon at the Swee-ny Administration Building.
The Sweeny Beautification Committee has served the City of Sweeny since 1967. Their objective is to
promote improvement and beautification of our community through increased interest and pride, and to sponsor the Annual Sweeny Pride Day Festival. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at the Sweeny Chamber of Commerce Board Room at 6:30 pm.

Sweeny Community Hospital (SCH), located at 305 N. McKinney Street, is a nonprofit Medicare certified Critical Access Hospital and Level IV Trauma Center providing initial evaluation, stabilization, diagnostic capabilities, and transfer to a higher level of care if necessary. Hospital District and serves southwestern Brazoria County.
The hospital opened in 1965 and focuses on providing cost-effective emergency care and out-patient services. SCH admitted and treated more than 20,000 patients last year. SCH offers many services including: Cardiology,
Digital Mammography, Family Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, MRI, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Physical Therapy, Podiatry, Pulmonology, Mental Health Counseling, Swing Bed, and Wound Care. SCH is just one of the district’s facilities.

Sweeny Community Hospital Development Foundation
Sweeny Community Hospital is a nonprofit institution funded by fees for services, grants, donations, and taxes collected within the hospital district.
The Sweeny Community Hospital Development Foundation Board was
recently formed to raise funds to purchase critical equipment for the hospital. The board is composed of leaders of the area who want to donate their time to raising funds for the hospital district.
Donations to the hospital are tax-
deductible and contribute directly to the health care of West-of-the-Brazos residents.
