A Brief History

The Champion group was founded in 1981 by Tracy Hoodless, with the main

aim of combining the professionalism of the larger recruitment companies with

the flexibility and personal service of the smaller firms. Today, Champion has

become one of the larger companies but our aim remains the same. Indeed, it is

probably this philosophy which has made Champion one of the market leaders

in recruitment in the Oxfordshire region.

The Champion group now has a turnover of £27 million, a staff of 61 and 7

specialist divisions operating across 4 strategically located branches, with up to

1,500 temporary staff, from a diverse range of disciplines, working every week

on behalf of client companies.

Since our doors opened in 1981 our focus has been on the delivery of a service

to client and candidate alike, which is professional, flexible and tailor made to

suit individual requirements.

To us, service has always been about understanding our clients’ recruitment

needs and working together with them to ensure that expectations are

continuously met. It is this approach that has enabled us to form long term

partnerships with over 2000 organisations throughout the region.

Constantly evolving, we use the most up-to-date recruitment techniques

including Behavioural Interviewing to add an extra level of rigour to the

selection process. This enables us to produce a shortlist of candidates that have

been objectively evaluated against key competencies.

Still owner managed, we are dedicated to continually adapting to the changing

Champion IT

The Information Technology arm of our Technical Division has seen an ever

increasing demand for its services. Specialist knowledge of the sector allows us

to introduce individuals and teams to complement existing in-house staff and to

provide temporary or contract personnel with skills in particular areas of short

term or project orientated demand.

Champion Recruitment

Industrial Personnel

Always there when you need us. We are at your service 24 hours a day, 365

days a year.

In recent years there has been a dramatic

change in the demand for temporary

industrial personnel. It is not unusual for

organisations to cope with busy periods

by using short term personnel to support

a small core of permanent staff.

From one to 100 we are at your service

to provide you with high quality

industrial personnel to assist in the

smooth, cost effective running of your

operation. Since 1981 we have been

providing Oxfordshire firms with teams

of assemblers, production operatives,

pickers/packers and forklift drivers.

Planned or unplanned – we plan for

both. With 4 branches throughout the

county we have access to 100’s of staff

at any given time. Requests for 30 staff

within half an hour is an everyday

occurrence. Our huge database of

personnel and our ability to get people to you quickly makes our service one of

the most efficient in the region.

Contract Management – more and more clients are asking us to provide

supervisors to take charge of our temporary teams. All the time consuming

administration matters usually associated with the hiring of temporary staff are

taken care of by our supervisors, thereby affording your key personnel the time

to concentrate fully on your operation.

branches have over 100 years combined experience in the field of secretarial

and administrative recruitment. We know that our clients expect a professional

Strategically located – with 4 branches strategically located throughout the

County we have access to a larger catchment of local candidates than any other

recruitment consultancy. All our branches are sited in prime high street

temporary staff within an hour and produce a shortlist of candidates for

permanent appointments within 4 hours.

Selection and Assessment – our consultants are trained in the art of

interviewing and selection. Before recommending candidates to clients,

attention is paid to every detail of the requirement, including skills, personality

type and long term objectives. Skills are assessed by us on the latest software

and we currently test for competence in the most commonly used computer

packages. Temporary candidates have references taken on them from previous

employers, before being assigned to clients.

Catering

Catering for Caterers is our Business.

We are proud of our reputation for providing the highest standard of catering

personnel. Our catering division is run by a manager with 25 years’ experience

in the catering industry, so it is hardly surprising that we are the main supplier

of catering staff to many well-known, national contract catering concerns, as

well as numerous local establishments.

Experience, Flexibility, Patience, Stamina, are, in our view, the main

attributes required of any member of a catering brigade. Our catering personnel

are assessed for these attributes before being introduced to our catering clients.

In addition, they have to complete a medical questionnaire (where appropriate)

and provide us with satisfactory references. Food Hygiene certificates are

examined and copies are kept on file.

From an Executive Chef to a General Assistant – we are experienced in

providing most categories of catering personnel at very short notice. We can

supply teams of staff for functions or just one person to help out in an

emergency. Our 24 hour service is there whenever you have a requirement, so

you need not worry if one of your staff does not turn up at the weekend or first

thing in the morning.

Driving Personnel

LGV and Van

An idle vehicle is an expensive liability – and it is vital, therefore, to have

someone you can call upon to provide you with a driver at short notice. The

Champion driving division has been providing drivers to firms throughout

Oxfordshire since 1981. We are used to handling requirements from only a day

to those lasting a year or even longer.

24 Hour Service – You can call on us at any time of day or night and we will

do our utmost to provide you with a driver just on time, every time.

Professional – We recognise that the modern driver is smart, clean and often

the representative by which our clients are judged. We take care to select drivers

who fit our customers’ image and are competent in completing their tasks

efficiently.

Interviewing, Selection and Assessment – All our drivers are interviewed by

consultants who understand the transport industry. Licences are checked and

copies are kept on file. Tests are given to ensure that drivers are fully

conversant with the law in relation to tachographs and driving hours

regulations. References are taken, where possible, to provide information on

previous driving and accident history.

FTA Member – Our membership of the FTA means that we are constantly up

to date with the changing world of transport.

Champion Technical was established in 1983 in response to the growing need
