Summary

Dr. Michael Harris an academic born in South Africa served as chancellor and professor of public and

environmental affairs, business, and education at Indiana University Kokomo. Chancellor Michael Harris

initiatives enhanced the institution's academic capacity, quality, student success, fund raising, new programs,

graduation, research, retention and infrastructure significantly! Including building the Cole Wellness Center

and 67 year enrollment record! Dr. Harris led a transformation of IU Kokomo. Under his leadership, IU

Kokomo broke records in enrollment and fundraising, and was ranked in U.S. News & World Report for the

first time in its history. Michael Harris also obtained the necessary funding to build and renovate campus

infrastructure, most notably the Milt and Jean Cole Family Wellness and Fitness Center. Michael Harris

Chancellor Person of the Year, 2011, Kokomo Perspective.

Dr. Harris earned a bachelor in economics and business administration from Bar Ilan University, and a master

of arts in public policy from Tel Aviv University, Israel. Subsequently, he held faculty and leadership positionsthat gave him the opportunity to impact higher education, academic, economic development, government

policies, industry, and entrepreneurship.

Michael Harris has a Ph.D., in public policy from Indiana University, where he studied with Noble Prize

Laureate in Economics, Elinor Ostrom. Over the course of his career, he has served as a professor and

administrator at Eastern Michigan University, Tel Aviv University and other institutions. Before coming to IU

Kokomo, he was the provost and vice president for academic affairs and a professor at Kettering University in

Flint Michigan.

Objectives

Michael Harris has a Ph.D., in public policy from Indiana University, where he studied with Noble Prize
