“We WELCOME all,
WORSHIP together at the Eucharistic table, and give WITNESS to Jesus Christ.”
This Tuesday, December 8th, we celebrate the Feast of the Immacu-late Conception, which commemo-rates our belief that Mary was conceived without original sin. This Feast is a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at Noon and 6:30 PM. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is not only a holy day of obligation, but also the patronal feast day for the United States, so we are strongly encour-aged to participate in the Eucharist on that day. Advent is a great time to celebrate feast days in honor of Our Lady and to reflect on Mary’s willingness to be the Mother of God. Next Saturday, December 12th, (not a holyday of obligation) we celebrate Mary, as Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of all the Americas. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us. The pregnant Mary offers a powerful symbol for us during Advent as we await the coming of Christmas! There will be at least two opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation this season. I will be participating in a Reconciliation Service with individual absolution at St. John Neumann on Tuesday, December 15th at 7 PM. It would be great to see many of you there. On Tuesday, December 22nd, here at Becket, eight priests will be available for individual Reconciliation from 7 - 8:30 PM. This will NOT be a service this year. Also, I am available by appointment for an individual celebration of the Sacrament. Email me with a couple dates and times that work for you and I will respond right away for an individual appointment.
Advent Peace and Blessings! Fr. Chris
All our staff are working from home once again and will not be
present in the office until Dec. 8th. If you need to contact any staff
member, please leave a voicemail at their extension and/or send them
an email; messages left for the parish office will be checked several
times a day. This policy will be in effect from November 18th -
December 8th in compliance with Governor Whitmer's directives and
MIOSHA emergency rules
Gift cards and other requested items for the Giving Tree are due back by next Sunday, Dec. 13th.
Thank you in advance.

ANSWER: You get tinselitus!
HAPPY ADVENT!!! Today is the Feast Day of St. Nicholas. Here are some fun facts.
He was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Myra during a time when Christians were persecuted by the Romans.
He was jailed by the Roman Emperor Diocletian for seven years until he was freed when Emperor Constantine, the first Christian Emperor, issued the Edict of Milan in 313.
St. Nicholas attended the first Council of Nicaea in 325.
According to legend, he helped three girls who couldn’t get married and were about to be sold by their fathers to slavery due to poverty by throwing purses of gold through their window for three consecutive nights.
The name “Santa Claus” came from “Sinterklaas,” the Dutch name for St. Nicholas.
The Dutch celebrated the feast day of St. Nicholas on the 6th of Dec.
Oranges are traditionally given to children in Holland, supposedly coming from Sinterklaas. These oranges often came in three, symbolizing the three bags of gold St. Nicholas gave in the legend where he helped three girls avoid slavery. Children receive their gifts in shoes, because the saint used to leave gifts in children’s shoes. This is the idea from where Christmas stockings originated. Gospel Reading: Mark 1:1-8 Key Passage: The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) Family Questions Adults: With whom could you be more patient this week, as Gad has been patient with you? Children: With whom could you be more patient and kind to this week?
I pray you all remain healthy and safe! Blessings!
Betsy
For the Kids: What happens when you eat Christmas decorations? Thought For the Adults: “The saints did not all begin well, but they ended well.” St. John Vianney

Gratitude: Adapted from the National SVDP Contemplation Even though Thanksgiving is over, and we are in hopeful anticipation of the baby Jesus coming in a few weeks, it is always good to examine the role that gratitude plays in our lives. St. Vincent stated that gratitude is very closely tied to the Vincentian virtue of humility. We are grateful not simply as a matter of manners, but because we are undeserving. We sometimes make lists of things for which we are grateful. How often are things on the list, things that we did not earn? Some things are ours only by the grace of God. Our gratitude for God’s gift to us comes with a duty and desire to repay that love. God is here. We are not alone, we have been chosen. For every gift and grace that we receive, there is another that we can give to someone else - gratefully and gladly. Blessed Frederick Ozanam said, “It only remains for us to humble ourselves in gratitude for having been chosen, frail and weak as we are, as instruments of so great an enterprise.” We must ask ourselves this question. “What am I thankful for, and how can I repay it in the service to others?”
Please share your gifts this Christmas season.

Homily
Nicene Creed:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayer of the Faithful Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
For all members of the Body of Christ: that God will give us the energy to pursue conversion,
advocate for justice and peace, and be heralds of God’s presence in the world, we pray to the Lord:
For healing of our political systems: that God will lead us to honest dialogue, greater respect for one
another, and a deeper commitment to the truth, we pray to the Lord:
For all who lack freedom or who feel entrapped by life, particularly the unemployed and those in
abusive relationships: that they may experience hope and opportunity through God’s presence
and love, we pray to the Lord:
For all who are alone or in isolation: that God will sustain them, help them be aware of the blessings
in their lives, and inspire us to reach out and accompany them, we pray to the Lord:
For all of us gathered here at St. Thomas a’Becket: that we may dedicate ourselves to promoting
faithful, honest, and loving relationships this Advent season, we pray to the Lord:
For all who are being treated for Covid-19 and for the sick in our community: that God will ease their
pain, heal them, and restore them to their communities of family and friends, especially:
. we pray to the Lord:
For all who have died in faith: that the Good Shepherd will gather them into the peace and joy of
God’s presence forever, especially:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Preparation of the Gifts Response: Blessed be God for ever.

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul.
