Yesterdays Logic Wont Solve Todays Dilemmas
The late management guru, Peter Drucker said, The greatest
danger in times of turbulence is not
the turbulence it is to act with yesterdays logic. If you are
still operating with yesterdays logic,
you wont accomplish your dreams.
The only way you can succeed in this century is to master
personal change management. Your
world of 10 years ago no longer exists. Dont sit down and wish
for the past. Here is a list of the
things that will continue to change in this century.
1. New Technologies - technologies will continue to change
rapidly. Many jobs will continue to be
lost as technology replaces manual tasks. Are you ready for the
technological changes?
2. Globalization - we are going to witness aggressive scrambling
for Africa.
3. Political and economic upheavals - More ethnic nationalities
will demand independence from
erstwhile arrangements coerced by colonial powers.
4. Terrorism - the world has not remained the same after 9-11.
This century will continue to
experience different dimensions of terror.
5. Climate change and natural disasters - due to mans increasing
irresponsibility toward the
environment we will continue to witness cosmic events that will
alter earths energy cycles.
6. Wealth creation. A few years ago, the major paradigm was for
people to go to school, get a
degree and come out to find a job to work. These days, you will
either create your own job or
die of hunger.
7. Lifestyle changes. In this century, you will see people walk
practically naked on the streets in the
name of fashion and human rights. Have you prepared your
children for this?8. Strain on the marriage institution - there
will be increasing attacks on the marriage institution
and family. In my travels around the country speaking to
schools, I am alarmed by the number of
children from broken homes.
9. Ethics and morality - there will continue to be ethical and
moral battles as social norms change.
Personal Change Management
Let me suggest six basic change management principles you can
apply.
1. Put yourself in forward gear. If you want to move forward in
life make sure your character and
actions are not in the reverse gear.

2. Increase your personal Education versus Entertainment (EVE)
ratio. Spend more time and
money on your personal development than you spend on
entertainment. You cannot adapt
successfully to the 21st century with a low EVE ratio.
3. Re-engineer your personal habits. There are little changes
that can make huge impacts in your
life. Example change your what you watch on TV, your decision
making style, self talk, your
physical appearance, attitude to work and study, etc.
4. Re-engineer your social network - increase your network of
business and social contacts. Are
your online and offline friends taking you toward or away from
your goals?
5. Create your own luck. In the 21st century, it will be foolish
to wait for luck to come to you
because it wont. You have to be prepared to create your own
luck. Road blocks are no excuse
to a determined man or woman.
6. Do a personal SWOT. Swot stands for Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities and Threats, so
that you can construct a scientific change management blueprint
for yourself.
