CHANGE OF SEASONS We are moving from the summer to the fall season of car shows and cruise-ins. Once again PCCC did ourselves proud by our attendance at many of the shows (I think we took home 4 club participation awards) and this summer also saw many different cruise-ins. Think JRs in Burlington, Lone Star in Knightdale, Goldston, Asheboro and several more. This gives us a chance to see lots of different very cool rides. Now that fall has arrived the next three months will has us busy with more shows, more cruise-ins, club social events for the whole family and several parades. We have close to 90 members in our club, so there will surely be something for everyone. Two big events coming up are this year s Oktoberfest/Chili cook-off on October 5 th and the 6 th Annual Reunion Cruise on Saturday November 15 th at the Lone Star Steakhouse in Knightdale. We always are looking for new car enthusiasts, so if you have a neighbor, friend, relative, co-worker, etc., that has an interest in cars please bring them along to a cruise, our monthly meeting or social event. All are welcome. We just ask they have in interest in classic cars and want to have fun. In closing, this has been a tough summer for many of our club families. Nancy and I want to extend our personal condolences to the families of JoAnn Hopp, Don Hoffman, Rich Holden and Mavis Johnson. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. CHANGE OF SEASONS

We are moving from the summer to the fall season of car shows and cruise-ins. Once again PCCC

did ourselves proud by our attendance at many of the shows (I think we took home 4 club participation

awards) and this summer also saw many different cruise-ins. Think JR’s in Burlington, Lone Star in

Knightdale, Goldston, Asheboro and several more. This gives us a chance to see lots of different very cool

rides.

Now that fall has arrived the next three months will has us busy with more shows, more cruise-ins, club social events for the whole family and several parades. We have close to 90 members in our club, so there will surely be something for everyone. Two big events coming up are this year’s Oktoberfest/Chili cook-off on October 5th and the 6th Annual Reunion Cruise on Saturday November 15th at the Lone Star Steakhouse in Knightdale.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM DAVID SMITH

There will not be a Tech Tid Bits article this month. Instead for those members who did not get the sad news of the passing of 2 long time PCCC members and the father of a long time PCCC member. I would like to share a little info. Col. Richard W. Holden, Sr. of Cary NC, departed this life on Thursday, August 21, 2014. Richards Funeral Service was Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church, in Raleigh. Richard was laid to rest in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC. Richard was a Colonel in the State Highway Patrol and loved working on his pickup truck with his son. He loved taking it out to shows as often as he could. Donations can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. A $100.00 Donation was made by PCCC in Richards name. Please keep Richard’s wife Sandra, son Richard Jr. and daughter Shonda in your thoughts and prayers. Donald (Don) Hoffman of Garner NC, Passed away on Monday August 25th after a long and brave battle with multiple illnesses. There was a memorial on Thursday August 28th at Victory Church in Raleigh. There was also a Memorial in New York where Don was from. Don was a Captain on the Maine New York Fire Department and a Viet Nam Vet. Both of which he was proud to admit and tell of his experiences in both. He also loved to drag race in his 2tonLT1 Impala. Don loved being a part of a club and he attended just about every show, parade and cruise in possible. Donations can be made to the Garner Fire Department. A $100.00 Donation was made by PCCC in Don’s name. Please keep Don’s wife Cheryl, son Chris and daughter Cathy in your thoughts and prayers. William E. Auger, JoAnn Hopp’s father passed away on July 11th . We did not know William but we all know JoAnn, so I ask that we all keep JoAnn and her family in our thoughts and prayers. JoAnn has been spending a lot of time up north helping her mother out. Wish the best for JoAnn. Robert and Melba McGee, Brother and sister in law of Mavis Johnson and brother in law and sister in law to Linwood Johnson were tragically taken in a multiple car accident on September 17th 2014. Visitation was at Rose Graham Funeral Home in Benson on Friday 9/19/2014, Funeral services were at 11:00AM 9/20/2014 at Johnson Memorial Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Burial services were at Devotional Gardens, Dunn NC. Flowers were sent to the Wake from Piedmont Classic. Please keep Mavis, Linwood and their families in your thoughts and prayers. It is always hard to lose a friend or family member, but what keeps them alive is the memories of them that we hold dear to us. I for one am glad to have known Richard and Don and I am sure JoAnn has a lot of fond memories of her father. As well as Mavis and Linwood. Keep the memories alive. I will never forget Don’s BIG smile that was always on his face. Dave

Feature Article—Linwood Johnson

The Crown Victoria—1955 and 1956 are the prettiest cars ever produced. Coming

up even in that respect is the 1957 Chevrolet 2 door hard top, which prompts me to

write this story for FoMoCo Times.

Our friends, Roger and Judy Moore came to our house in June of 2013 and wanted

up to buy their Sunset Coral / Colonial White ‘56 Crown Vic. Roger was receiving

treatment for liver cancer and was not able to look after the car as he felt it should be

taken care of (he is doing OK as of the writing of this story). We used to go to

carshows together. Mavis and I showed a Fiesta Red / Colonial White Crown Vic at

car shows with Roger and Judy.

Quickly the wheels in my brain started to turn. Since I had 2 black Chevy Bel Air 2

doors just alike except the colors of the interiors, sell the one that I had owned for 32

years. They were all original cars (I’m sold on original cars). I ran an ad on the

“Bargain Trader” website. There were only two inquiries, one from North Carolina

that found fault with the ’57 immediately—I hung up on him. The other was from a

55 year old lady from California. I sold it to her and was very pleased to have the

transaction completed in about 35 days. I hated to see it go.

This 1956 Crown Vic that we got from Roger and Judy is Sunset Coral / Colonial

White and is in top condition. Now we have a pair of Crown Vic's that are alike,

except for body color. The newly acquired ‘56 has low restoration mileage, a 312 ci

engine, full spoked wheel colors.

If one ‘56 is good, two ‘56’s are great.

What was the XP-755?

Answer will appear in the November 2014 Edition

FROM SEPT 2014

Super Sport, or SS, is the signature performance option package offered by Chevrolet on a limited number of its vehicles. All SS models come with distinctive "SS" markings on their exterior. The package was first made available for the 1961 Impala.

Some of the other models bearing the SS badge include the Camaro, Chevelle, El Camino, Monte Carlo, and Nova. Current SS models are produced by the GM Performance Division.

General Motors Company's Australian subsidiary Holden also offers a SS package on some of its vehicles. The Commodore SS is a sedan while the Ute SS is a two-door coupe utility.

See the Feature Article for a list of SS Models over the years.
