Our rigorous academic curriculum is firmly rooted in the traditional liberal arts, but with a cutting-edge approach. Some career skills are best learned by doing. We have numerous experiential learning opportunities in a variety of industries and career fields. We offer internships — for-credit work experiences in Hartford and beyond. We have externships — one-day programs that will give you firsthand knowledge of a specific industry. And we provide Career Exploration Treks — career exploration and networking trips, where you’ll meet with successful alumni and see their careers in action.

AMBITIOUS FUTURE Sheila Njau

Neuroscience Major Biochemistry MajorClass of 2017

All Trinity academics have a reputation for rigor, and one of our most challenging programs is neuroscience. But to look at Sheila’s schedule, you’d never guess such a thing. Because in addition to her academic studies, Sheila conducts research with Professor William Church, writes for The Trinity Tripod, dances with the Ballroom Dance Team, and participated in Trinity’s Interdisciplinary Science Program.

As a transfer student, Sheila was impressed at how quickly she felt at home. She says, “Not only are the academics amazing [at Trinity], but it also quickly starts to feel like home. People come together at this institution, whether it be faculty, students, or even alumni.”

Trinity offered Susannah the opportunity to be a student who is recognized as an individual and who is motivated by her professors and her campus community — she is not just a number in the system. Susannah says that she saw how “Trinity students seemed to have it all, balancing rigorous course loads, athletics, jobs, social lives, and activities and clubs.”

Since transferring, Susannah has embraced the high level of academic and extracurricular engagement characteristic of many Trinity students. The College’s small class sizes have helped her foster meaningful relationships with her professors, both within and outside of her major; she often sends them interesting articles to read or meets them for coffee. In addition to her studies, she has played on the volleyball team, tutored at a local middle school, and worked in the Admissions Office and with other transfer students to ease their transition to Trinity. In her junior year, Susannah studied abroad in London, where she held an internship with a nonprofit organization.

With her Trinity liberal arts education, Susannah says that she now feels “prepared to tackle the daunting, competitive postgrad world.”

Erik BloomquistTheater Major, Music MinorClass of 2014

Erik excelled in the classroom, but it wasn’t where he felt most comfortable. Erik belonged on the stage. At Trinity, Erik participated in the Trinity Film Festival and served as director and choreographer for theater department and musical theater shows. He also hosted, and won, our Extemporaneous Public Speaking Contest.

Erik transferred to Trinity and immediately started taking advantage of everything the campus offered. As he said as a senior, “I’m still discovering new places and things on campus. New spots in the library. New clubs. New academic resources. New programs and people. Trinity is deeply rooted in tradition but takes advantage of appropriate innovation, giving it the best of both worlds. It is also an extraordinarily beautiful campus — making it perfect for work and play.”
