Westport engineers the world’s most advanced natural gas engines and vehicles.

westport, here and now At Westport, we’ve been thinking about questions like how we can get from A to B more efficiently, more responsibly, and more economically for some time. And we have answers. In fact, they’re already on the road today. An entire fleet of vehicles from the world’s largest car and truck companies. All using Westport engine technology, and a next generation power supply—natural gas.

Westport engineers the world’s most advanced natural gas engines and vehicles. But more than that, we are fundamentally changing the way the world travels the roads, rails and seas. We work with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide from design through to production, creating products to meet the growing demand for vehicle technology that will reduce both emissions and fuel costs.

a vision for a new road aheadWestport is built on a foundation of scientific pioneering, and came to life in a research lab at the University of British Columbia where Professor Philip Hill and his team focused their work on natural gas as a fuel for combustion engines.

In 1995, Westport CEO David Demers saw the potential for natural gas in transportation, and adapted Dr. Hill’s technology to develop a product that would reduce harmful emissions while preserving combustion engine performance, fuel economy, durability and reliability.

Unlike other technologies, natural gas vehicles with Westport systems have comparable power and range to conventional diesel and gasoline vehicles.

changing the way Businesses runThe natural gas vehicle (NGV) industry is growing quickly. According to NGV America, there are more than 15 million NGVs in use worldwide today, including about 120,000 operating in the U.S. The International Association of Natural Gas Vehicles projects that there will be more than 50 million NGVs worldwide within the next 10 years—almost 10 percent of the world’s transportation fleet.

Today, there are more than

15 million natural gas vehicles in use worldwide.

Westport has one of the largest intellectual property portfolios in the automotive sector, and we work with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide to develop products in markets with a significant demand for clean, low-emission engines, from automotive through to high horsepower applications.

We work with OEMs to leverage their manufacturing, supply chain and global distribution to design quality products while reducing the need for capital investment.

helping fleets go farther more economicallyAcross the globe, large deposits of natural gas are being discovered in regions with high transportation needs, while companies and government invest in renewable natural gas infrastructure.

As the cost of gasoline and diesel continues to rise compared to natural gas, more manufacturers and owners realize the benefits of NGVs, including lower fuel costs, increased energy security from using a domestic resource, and a cleaner burning fuel that’s better for the environment.

gloBal partnerships drive the futureOur partnerships are key to Westport’s success and development. Two strategic joint ventures are Weichai Westport in China, and Cummins Westport in North America, both with a focus on the medium- to heavy-duty markets.

We’re changing the way the world does business with a strategic model that’s built

to adapt to the needs of our customers and partners.

We work closely with supply chain partners to produce fuel systems components that meet Westport’s exacting standards for quality and sustainability.

Our supply partners are chosen through a

rigorous selection process.
