Foundation Golf Classic Celebrates 24 Years of Support for IRMC

Indian River Medical Center Foundation held its 24th Annual Swing for Health Golf Classic on Dec. 9, with a field of 80 golfers, who enjoyed a beautiful day at Hawk’s Nest Golf Club. Proceeds from the Golf Classic provide valuable funds necessary for special projects at the hospital supported by the Foundation.

The low-gross winners of the Flight One group were Bill DeVinney, Doug Marquis, Doug Sweeney and Steve O’Grady. Low-gross winners of the Flight Two group

were Don Proctor, Don Tolliver, Bill Patterson and Steve Moler. Awards also were presented to 1st through 3rd place net teams in each category and to Chris Smith and Brian Bauer for the longest drives and Emily Sherwood, Dr. Ted Perry, Steve Moler and Stephanie Kerensky, R.N., BSN, for closest to pin.

Major sponsors for the event included Proctor Construction Company; Array Architects; Anchor Health Properties; Anesthesia of Indian River, Inc.; Bradford Electric, Inc.; and Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC.

Leslie LaFountain, R.N., PCCN, just received her Progressive Care Certification. PCCN specialty certification was introduced in 2004 by the American

Association for Critical Care Nurses for nurses providing care to acutely ill adult patients. In addition to providing them with a sense of professional pride and achievement, PCCN certification reinforces

the special knowledge and experience required for progressive care nursing. Research studies link higher levels of clinical knowledge, skill and experience with certification.

In suggesting we recognized Leslie, Kathy Clark, R.N., CCRN, CNML, nurse manager, Cardiac Stepdown Unit, Intermediate Cardiac Care, said that “Advancing one’s clinical knowledge and staying current with nursing practice is so important for our patients. Leslie is an asset to our IRMC team.”

From left, Lorretta Larmond-Hyman, Sue Ostranger, Karen Peralta and Alicia Newton, all Patient Access Services reps, were especially proud of their personalized stockings in the Insurance Verification Department.

Congratulations go to Aprill Baker, R.N., BSN, OCN, CRNI, and Lisa Crowe, R.N., BSN, OCN, who both graduated from Indian River State College on Dec. 18 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Their supervisor, Rick Herndon, office manager, Ambulatory Infusion, asked that we recognize their achievement in eChannel.

Aprill and Lisa have been working together since 2005 as oncology nurses at the practice of Drs. William McGarry,

Michaela Scott and Frederick Weeks. Presently they work in Ambulatory Infusion in IRMC’s Patient Pavilion. They both plan on continuing their education by obtaining their Master of Science in Nursing.

“Thanks go to our families for their support and IRMC for allowing us the opportunity to continue our education by assisting us financially with tuition reimbursement benefits,” Aprill said.

Patient Access Employees Create Holiday Decorating ContestThe Patient Access staff thought it would

be fun this year to turn decorating into a contest, as each area tried to outdo the other with bows, trees, stockings, wreaths and bells. It looks like it might be the start of a holiday tradition at IRMC, said Iris Woulard-King, manager, Patient Access.

Scheduling had the winning decorations this year, crafted with joy by, from left, Brandy

Hisle, Kieonta Harris and Eileen Basile.

In the Emergency Department, third-shift staff in the Patient Access area surprised their colleagues with festive decorations. The day shift, from left, Rose Gustave, Kizzie Benjamin, Willkecia Ewing and Jean Serra, enjoyed the handiwork of Yolanda Anderson, Wanda Hilton and Michelle King (not pictured).

Tim Taylor, left, and Arely Jarrett, put their all into

making the new Outpatient Surgery entrance merry.
