Remember: Wash Your Hands!

IRMC just received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Receiving Center Gold Quality Achievement Award for the third year in a row. The award recognizes IRMC’s success in implementing the highest standard of care for heart attack patients. ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, or STEMI, is the deadliest form of heart attack during which one of the heart’s major arteries (one of the arteries that supplies oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to the heart muscle itself) is blocked. To prevent death, it’s critical to restore blood flow as quickly as possible, either by surgically opening the blocked vessel or by giving clot-busting medication.

Hospitals participating in Mission: Lifeline are referred to as STEMI Receiving Centers and are evaluated on eight performance achievement measures, including the percentage of STEMI patients who received percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) within 90 minutes of first medical contact. Gold is the highest award level, recognizing two or more consecutive years of achieving these standards.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible!
