This packet contains instructions and resources to accomplish that goal. Below is a breakdown of
how an academic day would look.
1. 20 Minutes Reading Read a book of your choice for 20 minutes either by yourself or to a family
member. Think about what the main idea of the chapter was and see if you can
identify important facts and details from what you have read.

entry about your day or anything you want.
3. 20 Minutes Science
4. 30 Minutes Math Work on one of the provided worksheets.
No work will be collected, however we have created a private Facebook group
where you can upload pictures, videos, and updates of you daily activities to share

Reading
Instructions: Choose any book that you would like to read and read it
for 20 minutes. You can read it to yourself, a family member, or anyone
else you would like to. While you read, think about these questions.
1. What is the main idea of the story/chapter?
2. How can you describe the relationships between characters in the
story?
3. Can you pick out important facts and details that you might use if
you were to tell someone about what you read?
4. Why do you think the author wrote the story?
5. Have you ever read something similar (the same)? If so, what was
it and how do they compare? If no, would you like to?
6. Can you compare and contrast the characters in your story?
Writing
Instructions: You may choose to keep a journal to record your
thoughts, experiences, and ideas or you can choose to write about one of
the included writing prompts. Remember to use descriptive details in
your writing, proper punctuation, and write in complete sentences.
Writing Prompts:
1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? What made it so special? · Do you
remember your first-ever day of school? Describe one vivid memory from that
day.
2. Think about one of your favorite holiday-related memories. Write an essay
describing it and tell why it is so unforgettable.
3. What is your favorite food? Describe it as if you were introducing it to
someone who has never seen or tasted it.
4. Have you thought about what you want to be when you grow up? Write an
essay explaining why you think you’d like that career.
5. What is the best video game on the planet? Explain why it’s better than similar
games.

6. What are the three most important lessons parents should teach their children
and why?
7. Write an essay to a 4th-grader, explaining two or three key strategies for having
a positive 5th-grade experience. · Does your family have any customs or
traditions that might be unfamiliar to a classmate? Describe them.
8. You are given an exceptional camera. Everything you take a picture of
becomes yours, but you can only take three pictures. Tell a story about the
photos you take.
9. One morning, you glance in the mirror and realize that you don’t have a
reflection. You’ve become invisible! Write a story about your day.
10. Imagine you get to relive your favorite holiday every day. What’s that like?
Science
Instructions: These are engineering challenges.
1. Build something using materials in your house to keep ice from
freezing in your freezer for as long as you can. Think about what
containers you might use or what materials would shield water
from the cold. Begin by timing how long it takes to freeze water in
whatever container you choose. Modify your container the time it
again. Did the time change? What changes can you make to make
the freezing process take longer? Is there anything you can mix
into the water to help it take longer to freeze? Try coming up with
5 different solutions and try 1 a day.
2. Build something using materials from your house that can make
music or musical sounds. Sound comes in waves and vibrations.
Keep that in mind while you explore what all you can accomplish.
The holes in guitars are to amplify the sound to make it louder for
the listener. Using this knowledge, can you amplify any sounds
you make? Try and come up with 5 different instruments of your
own and name them.

You can do this song sitting like she does it or standing up. When
you learn the song you can go faster and faster. Try going so fast
you can sing the whole song with just one breath.
For older students I usually teach it a little different. When you get
to the doodle de doo at the end put your right hand on the bottom
of your left ear and your left hand on your nose. Then for the
second doodle de doo switch and put your left hand on your right
ear and your right hand on your nose. You might have to practice
this slowly at first. YouTube Video 2015CampSingWaddlyatcha
