Franklin D. Roosevelt FDR promised a

“New Deal” for the American people.

Hoover ran for a second term but with the worsening economy people were looking for a new leader with new ideas.

Who was FDR?

Roosevelt was born into a rich family He was a distant cousin of former

President Theodore Roosevelt. In1905 he married his fifth cousin

Eleanor Roosevelt. He enjoyed a successful political carreer, then…

Paralisis In1921 he suffered from

Polio that left him paralized in both legs.

But paralisis could not stop FDR, and after a couple years, he returned to politics.

He was elected governor of NY in 1928 and again in 1930.

He never mentioned his legs and asked the press not to take pictures of his wheelchair.

FDR takes command FDR won the presidency by a

landslide. He entered office during the worst

part of the depression.
