The constituents of a mixture can be separated using physical means as follow:

1. Physical method: Separating a mixture of iron fillings and sulphur powder

Steps: A magnet is placed near to the mixture of iron filings and sulphur powderObservation: a) (Iron filling / sulphur powder) will be attracted to the magnet bar. b) (Iron filling / sulphur powder) will not be attracted to the magnet bar.

2. Physical method: Separating a mixture of sand and salt

Steps: a) Add water to (dissolve/ evaporate) the salt in the mixture b) Stirred the solution. The (sand/ salt) is separated c) (Dissolve/ evaporate) the salt solution to obtain (sand/ salt)

Observation:

Substance Name of the substanceResidue on the filter paper in Diagram (b)Filtrate in the beaker in diagram (b)White solid in the evaporating dish in Diagram (c)
