Chapter 9 Case Study
1. (question #2) Exhibit 9.4 identified transformational and charismatic leader
behaviors. In your opinion which of the behavioral components does Ms.
Burns exemplify?
In my opinion the strategy led to Burns providing visionary aspect in reaching certain
outcome not normally on the thought of, so I feel that Ms. Burns thinks outside the
box, and she inspired others as well as re-examining methods in order to make a
different outcome, so I would say that she actually has two behaviors that she can fit
in which are intellectual stimulation, and idealized influence.
2. (question #3) A key attribute of servant leadership is that it transcends self-
interest to serve the needs of others. Does Ursula Burns fit this bill?
The case shows a leadership style that focuses on the company goals within the targeted
marketplace. So the qualities of charismatic works on transforming ordinary ideas into
long-term development on the subject of meeting core objectives.

3. (question #4) Exhibit 9.3 identfies the qualities of charismatic and
transformational leaders. Based on your knowledge of Ms. Burns, which of
the ten qualities can you directly attribute to her?
By focusing on the same attribute, from the communication style to strategic decision
making, all of which can make up the 12 qualities as observed in the case so I feel
that all the qualities from “vision” communication skills, self-confidence and moral
conviction, ability to inspire trust, high risk orientation, high energy and action
orientation, relationship power base, minimum internal conflict, ability to empower
other, self-promoting personality, selflessness.
