A Week At The Beach

So far this year we have had an extreme weather pattern as far as heat and rain. Then we are dealing with the

pandemic thrown in to keep us in limbo as to what we can and cannot do. A lot of us are still managing to get

out and ride as much as we can. It is unsure what the future lies ahead as far as traveling like we used to do a

year ago. We are such a tight knit group. Jeanette and I miss all of you when we cannot meet and greet as we

used to.

Life throws us a lot of curve balls and as members of GWRRA and Chapter K we can get through this and still

be strong and safe. We have been challenged with many things in the past and have always prevailed and

come out stronger than before. I cannot say enough about how strong our chapter and district are as we strive

to survive and keep the spirit going through all of this. Let all of us stay strong and be compassionate for one

another through these trying times.

Hopefully, we can start to resume the “new normal” soon, gathering together, riding together, and enjoying

each other’s company. Since several activities are still “possible” be sure to check your emails for updates,

impromptu ride opportunities, and information.

Jeanette & I will be taking our SkyMed gift, weeklong vacation this month. We did not really want to spend a

lot of time getting to where we were going, so we opted for a beach front vacation resort in Cocoa Beach.

Someplace where we can relax, enjoy the ocean (which Jeanette loves) and the sun for a week. As of this

writing, we may even be joined by our good friends Conrad & Marcia Shad. We are going to have sooooo

much fun!

Hope to see EVERYONE soon!

We hope you are making plans to attend the 41st Annual Florida District Gathering of the Wings, March 18, 19 & 20th, 2021, at the Altamonte Springs Hilton. Shenanigans at the Florida District Rally. Information about Hotel and Rally registration are on the District Website @ gwrraflorida.com. We hope to see you at a GWRRA event in 2020,

Couple of the Year Bob & Loraine Ingenito

E A R L Y Y E A R S

My father was a mechanic, so I grew up with a wrench in my hand. At age 14, I built my 1st bike using a

lawnmower engine and a bicycle frame. It had no lights but during the day I rode it around the neighborhood

and to my friend’s house down the street. Lots of summer fun. The next year I bought my 1st street bike, a

Honda 305 Sport. I mowed lawns and did odd jobs to pay for the bike. Because of my age, my friend kept

the bike for me. I can always find ways around things!

I worked as a mechanic and then began my career as a train engineer. During these times I rode dirt bikes for

pleasure and relaxation. I tried the tracks but since mostly young kids were riding there, I found other off-

road places to ride. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

In 1975 I bought a KZ 400 but quickly realized it was too small and traded for a KZ 1000. I still own this

street bike.

Next month – my Goldwing Story.

BYE FOR NOW!

R E S T U R A N T “F U N B O O K S” COUPON BOOKS

Those who purchased these books, remember to use them at various places since we are not able to put them on the chapter calendar. Once you have used them 2 times for a meal or 4 times for ice cream – you have your money’s worth!

Houligans & Ocean Deck (valet parking) are two coupon places we have eaten with outdoor seating and good food. You could always order, pick up, and eat at home or at a park (as weather cools). Subway & ice cream places are all good take out places to use the coupons.

There are plenty of coupon locations that did not have to close because of Covid 19 and at these places I do not feel guilty using a coupon. Also remember to tip at the original price as this pandemic has been very difficult on servers.

Remember to check out the coupons at the back of the book (1) Services, Fitness, & Retail & (2) Attractions & Activities. Some of the items in these areas are: Go Carts, Mini Golf, FUN TOWN, Golf, Florist, & Edible Arrangements.

Wing Ding 42 Springfield, MO.

Founded in 1835, Springfield, Missouri is where the action is in June! Springfield is the "birthplace of Route

66". Springfield's historic C-Street continues its resurgence into modern times with improvements into its

downtown area. Unique restaurants and quaint coffee shops bring that feel of nostalgia back. There are three

breweries and many chef owned eateries showcase the downtown arena. The Route 66 car Museum has called

this city its home.

I have reserved rooms in the two most sought after hotels. The University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center

(headquarters) is located .0.43 miles to the Expo Center where our Wing Ding will take place. They offer NO

breakfast and have indoor/outdoor pools. The Q Hotel and Suites is 2 blocks away and offers BREAKFAST.

They also offer an outdoor pool. Both hotels are $117/night. Opening ceremony is Tuesday June 29th. Room

reservations are for June 28-July 4. These dates can be altered. Check your latest Wing World Magazine for

more information. You may also go to SPRINGFIELDMO.ORG to discover more.

If interested in any accommodations, please let me know.

Thank you.

Florida District Coast to Coast Ride-In Chapter FL1-K is headed to Cedar Key on November 8th. Cedar Key is quaint fishing village with a popula-tion of 790, is home to some of the best seafood restaurants. Although Cedar Key is approximately 150 miles from the start point, the District Ride-In route is 233 miles with a stop in Lake City for lunch that day. In 1989, Cedar Key was recognized as a National Historic Place, It was named for the abundance of red cedar trees. it's a small island community nestled among many tiny keys on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Located 50 miles southwest of Gainesville, it boasts qualities of the old Florida. In 1865, Eberhard Faber built a plant here to manufacture pencils from the cedar trees. In 1929, president Herbert Hoover established the Cedar Keys National Wildlife refuge by naming three of the islands as a breeding ground for colonial birds. Today, it's a haven for artists and adventuristic tourists. Several Chapter K members have reserved a room for Sunday, November 8th. at the Park Place Motel, 211 2nd St., Cedar Key with FREE CANCELATION and many amenities. The motel is Covid 19 compliant. Call 352 543-573 to reserve your room today. If you are a AAA or AARP member, a discount applies. When mak-ing your reservation, let them know you are a GWRRA member. If we can get 6 reservations, a GROUP DISCOUNT applies. Some are spending 2 nights to have a little R&R.

High School Reunion

Have you ever been guilty of looking at someone your age and thinking, “Surely I can’t look that old?”

Then you will love this one!

My name is Alice Smith and I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his DDS diploma which showed his full name.

Suddenly I remembered a tall handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name who had been in my high school class some 40-odd years ago. Could this be the same guy that I had a secret crush on way back then?

Upon seeing him, however I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding gray-haired man with the deep lined face was way too old to have been my classmate.

After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended Morgan Park High School.

“Yes, Yes, I did. I’m a Mustang,” he beamed with pride.

When did you graduate? I asked.

He answered, “In 1959. Why do you ask?”

“You were in my class” I exclaimed.

He looked at me closely.

Then, that ugly old, bald, wrinkled, fat, gray, decrepit son-of-a-gun asked, “What did you teach?”

From the Membership…….

We knew Jeanette Carr was a superb seamstress. She always made costumes for Ed and herself that reflected themes of the Florida District Rallies. Sometimes the costumes were patriotic; sometimes they were seafaring themed or old-time western. Jeanette taught elementary schools in Louisiana and here in Volusia County. She enchanted her students with her hand made vests that sported seasonal and holiday themes.

Then, along came the year 2020! Jeanette faced serious surgeries and weeks of recovery….And COVID19 came to impact all of our lives.

In early March we realized we needed to mask-up whenever we left our personal space, or admitted someone into our personal space. Masks were nonexistent at local stores. They could be purchased online at $100.00 per box. Delivery was three month out!

So while Jeanette recuperated, she went to work at her sewing machine. She made masks for Ed and herself. She made masks for family from California to Georgia. Jeanette ended up making about a hundred masks.

Recently her beautiful granddaughter, Marissa, who was returning to college, asked her grandma to make MORE masks for her. What a complement!

After the main “mask making” was over, there laid all those scraps of fabric. Nothing else to do but…make a quilt.

Gary and I were recipients of a beautiful GWRRA-themed quilt Jeanette had designed and sewn for us, so I was excited when she told me of her plan for the fabric scraps. I was not disappointed! She had pieced togeth-er a beautiful quilted wall hanging for their office. She even had the moxie to put 2020 across the top! How cool and resourceful!

Just goes to show ya’, no matter how grim things in the world look, there are gifted people who give to others and are not afraid to face those grim times and make their family and friends safer and their “space” more beautiful.

Way to go, Jeanette!

MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE Part 1

Motorcycle Insurance is not required by Florida Law. This is not a good idea because you are still respon-

sible for “liability” should you damage someone else’s property or person. An example of this could be that

one day you are out riding your motorcycle. You pull up behind a stopped Mercedes at a traffic light but you

didn’t notice a little oil on the roadway. You slide into the rear of the Mercedes and cave in that nice $5000.00

plastic bumper. You are now responsible to pay the owner of the Mercedes $5000.00 to repair the bumper.

What if the driver also claims whiplash? How much is that claim going to be for? $10,000.00? 20,000.00 or

more?

Most of you are probably responsible and have at least the basic coverage required for your car by Florida

Law which is 10/20/10. That means that you have $10,000.00 coverage for one person should you injure

them. There is $20,000.00 total for all persons involved in a crash that you injure and $10,000.00 for damage

to the vehicle you strike. With the cost of today’s hospital and medical expenses, and the cost of vehicle re-

pairs, is that basic coverage really enough? If you do more damage than the limits of your Motorcycle Insur-

ance Policy, you are responsible the pay the difference. If you cannot afford to pay the difference a judge can

suspend your driver’s license for both motorcycle and car until you make restitution.

The limits of a motorcycle or car insurance policy is totally up to you. Of course, the more coverage limits

you want the more your yearly premium will be. One way to get twice the coverage and save a little money

on your yearly premium is to get what is called “stacked” insurance. That means if you only have 10/20/10

insurance on your motorcycle and 10/20/10 insurance on your car, should you become liable for crash damage,

you now stack those two coverage figures and actually have 20/40/20 dollars’ worth of coverage. “Stacking”

can only be done if both your motorcycle and car is with the same company. You can’t price shop and pur-

chase insurance for you motorcycle with one company and your car insurance with another company and then

want to “stack” the coverage. The amount of monetary value for the policy I used as an example was the bare

minimum Florida Law requires for your car. In today’s economy much higher limits would be more practical.

Next month in “PART 2” of my article. I will discuss with you how to protect yourself from the

“Uninsured” or the “Under Insured Motorist”.
