Flood Bucket Update The next shipment will be going out of Rolling Plains UMC in Zanesville and it will be mid-late October, date still to be confirmed. In the next day or so, drop off points around the conference will be confirmed. Once that information starts to come in, we will begin update the website. In the meantime, please hold onto your buckets until the drop off locations are identified. School or hygiene kits ARE being accepted. We can also take any leftover supplies they have for the buckets and ship them for “bulk inventory” in the distribution warehouse. We do not have a driver or truck for this Phase II. If you or your churches have any connections, please let us know.

Upcoming VIM Leader Trainings October 7 and 21 In light of recent disasters, we are aware that local churches and districts may be sending teams to help rebuild a few months down the road. The VIM Leaders Training prepares folks to lead teams in mission locally, nationally, and globally. Please spread the word about these upcoming trainings! Stephen Buzard In Concert October 6 Friday, October 6 at 7:30 pm at King Avenue UMC, 299 King Avenue, Columbus, 43201. The concert is free and open to the public. Stephen Buzard is the Director of Music at St. James Cathedral in Chicago. He is the principal musician at St. James, playing the organ for services and directing the Cathedral Choir. Mr. Buzard was the winner of the 2010 Arthur Poister Competition and the 2009 Joan Lippincott Competition for Excellence in Organ Performance. Mr. Buzard is an Associate of the American Guild of Organists, winning the Elmer and Associate Prizes for highest score on an AGO exam nationally. This year he was named one of the “top 20 organists under 30” by The Diapason magazine.

MTSO faculty lecture connects theology, ecology and race October 24 Elaine Nogueira-Godsey, assistant professor of theology, ecology and race, delivers her faculty lecture, "Connecting Theology, Ecology and Race: A Conversation on Environmental Justice," at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Alford Centrum on the MTSO campus, 3081 Columbus Pike in Delaware. It is free and open to the public. Nogueira-Godsey brings a global perspective to her teaching and scholarly research. A native of Brazil, where she received her bachelor’s degree, she earned her master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She has written extensively on the intersection of ecology, race, gender and theology. In July, the GlobalChurch Project named Nogueira-Godsey one of “18 Latin American female theologians you should know about.”

Global Migration Special Offering December 3 The Connectional Table and Council of Bishops have designated Sunday, December 3, 2017 as Global Migration Sunday to raise funds to aid migrants and refugees. The group set the date for the special day of prayer and offering for migrants to be the first Sunday of Advent, Dec. 3 this year. That means the collection will occur during the season when Christians around the world remember that even Jesus and his family were at one-time refugees on the run from political violence.
