Risk is something which affects everyone within BSO. Managing risk effectively is something in which all BSO management and all staff have a part to play. The process by which we identify, report and manage those risks are set out in our risk policies. BSO Risk Management Strategy Procedure for the BSO Management of Risk Registers These have recently been updated and are now available on the CRSI SharePoint site. For any further information please contact Patricia Maginnis, Governance and Risk Officer, extension 3806.
BSO Risk Update
Irene Cromie retired after 42 years in the health service,
laterally BSO on 31 May 2017.
Irene is well known and loved throughout BSO and the
Southern HSC Trust and she will be greatly missed by her BSO
colleagues, the wider health family and especially by her friends
in PaLS Armagh and beyond.
Irene was renowned for her hospitality to all visitors at the PaLS
Armagh Site and for her notoriously excellent tea parties.
Irene has an extremely kind disposition. Most importantly, she
always assisted in any way to make sure her customers
received what they needed, on time and for the best price. In addition,
she always had time to have a quick chat with her colleagues throughout
BSO and the Trust. On Irene’s retirement, she received numerous cards
and presents from Trust staff, BSO colleagues and suppliers, a testament
to how well she was thought of by all who knew her.
Irene will enjoy spending more time with her nephews and visiting her
eldest nephew Christopher in London. She is hoping to spend her
retirement by learning to play the piano and helping out at her sister’s
farm.
*We all wish Irene the very best in her endeavours and send
our best wishes for a long and prosperous retirement*

Congratulations PaLS Community Equipment and Continence Service
On Successful Annual Health Check!!
PaLS Community Equipment and Continence Service (CECS) based at Lissue, recently underwent
a successful Annual Heath Check as part of their Community Equipment Code of Practice
Scheme (CECOPS) Accreditation, which they achieved last year. PaLS CECS was the first CECOPS
accredited service in Northern Ireland.
The prestigious CECOPS Accreditation is awarded to organisations who comply with stringent
standards of service relating to the community equipment sector. CECOPS is the independent
standards body in the UK for disability equipment, wheelchair and seating services and has a
Code of Practice for these services, which covers commissioning, and governance, service
provision and clinical and professional responsibilities.
Key finds from the CECOPS Health Check Report were:
“Staff have evidently worked hard since the initial assessment with a wide range of improvement actions undertaken”.
“Staff at the Community Equipment and Continence Service are congratulated on recognising the importance of continually striving to make improvements and for making this a focus”.
“Staff should be proud of their notable achievements over the last year
Congratulations to the hardworking PaLS CECS staff on maintaining accreditation status!

In 2014 NIFRS requested the services of BSO to undertake a review of the NIFRS IT Infrastructure
and Services. The review was mandated to investigate and identify risks and critical failure points
within the IT infrastructure and services, and make recommendations to address them. The risk
of significant service failure was exceeding the capabilities of the current services and their
support structures to manage or mitigate those risks.
BSO ITS will act as NIFRS’ high performance business partner providing information technology
and associated services to defined and agreed service levels. This will be achieved through a
Transformational Programme of projects, activities and deliverables, coordinated through a
formalised NIFRS Transformational Programme using agreed resources and costs, to a
pre-determined timescale. On 1st April 2017 the provision of IT Services transferred to Business
Services Organisation (BSO ITS).
Achievement of NIFRS business objectives relies on having a fit for purpose IT Infrastructure and
suitable software and support services, to deliver core IT systems and services to the required
level of availability, as and where required. The programme for IT development in NIFRS ensures
its alignment with these corporate objectives.

Key recommendations made in the original review included the need to completely update and/
or replace the current IT Platforms, Infrastructure, WANs, LANs, WIFIs, Internet and Firewalls.
The majority of key risks within the NIFRS IT Infrastructure have already been addressed as part
of the transformational programme. In summary this involved a complete top to bottom
overhaul of the IT infrastructure estate with work ongoing in many areas to improve the services
available to the NIFRS.
While the actual achievement and delivery of specific benefits is a requirement of individual
associated projects, benefits are to be sought in the following areas:
Infrastructure
Networks
Remote Access and security
WAN LAN and WIFI services
Server Platforms
Client Device Management
Desktop and mobile devices upgrades
Services
Application updates
Service Support provision
New Services
IT Policies and Procedures
Standards compliances
Certification
