• An English actor and Filmmaker• He rose to fame in the “Silent Film” era• One of the most famous figure of the film
Industry• The Best Comedian ever known in History• His famous quote : “A day without Laughter is
a day Wasted”

His Childhood• Born in London on April 16th, 1889• Was very POOR and his mother did not have
enough money to raise him.• He had to work even before age of 9• At age of 14th, his mother became mentally
sick and was moved to live in a hospital for mental disorders.• He started performing at early age• At Age of 19th, he signed a contract with an
important filmmaker and moved to America.

• In 1914 he started performing in Major films and became very famous.• He directed his films and wrote, produced,
edited, starred in, and composed the music for most of his films• His films were very comic but many of them
had social and political themes• He was a perfectionist• He gained a lot of fame and became the best
known figure in the world

The Downturn• In 1940, he became very political which reflected
in his movies• His popularity declined rapidly• In 1953, and because of a Scandal, a police case
was opened against him and he was forced to leave the United states and settle in Switzerland

The End of a Legend
• In mid 1970s he became very ill• In 1972 he was honored as the best actor for a
century and was granted the Oscar prize.• In March 4th, 1975 Queen Elizabeth II granted him
a Knighthood and became Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin• He passed away on 25th December 1977, he was
88 years old
