NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to CCHS seniors Mitchell Salvino and Caleb Schilly for being selected as Charlotte Catholic’s 2018-2019 nominees for the Park Scholarship at North Carolina State University! Winners receive a full academic scholarship to NC State.

MACS Open Board Meeting: Parents are invited to attend the next MACS Open Board Meeting, which will be held tonight, September 18th, at 7:00 p.m. in the New Life Center at St. Matthew Catholic Church. All are welcome. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements.

Homecoming Dance: The winner of the 2018 Homecoming Theme survey is “New York Nights”! The dance will be held on Saturday, October 20th from 9:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. in the CCHS gym. More details will follow soon!

St. Gabriel Teen Mass: CCHS students, please note the following worship and service opportunities this coming weekend at St. Gabriel: o Monthly Teen Mass will be held on Sunday, September 23rd at 5:00 p.m. at

St. Gabriel. All ages are welcome to attend, but teens serve in most of the layperson roles. Click here to sign up to participate in the Mass.

o Share Your Musical Talents: We are looking for instrumentalists and choral

singers to help us enhance our worship experience. If you have musical talents to share, please email Leslie Tesch, Teen Ministry Coordinator, at [email protected].

o Eucharistic Ministers: We need teens to serve as Eucharistic Ministers.

Training will be held on Thursday, September 27th and Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Gabriel sanctuary. Teens (and adults) who have been confirmed and feel called to serve are welcome. RSVP to Leslie Tesch at [email protected] with the date you will attend. Teens may choose to serve only at the monthly Teen Masses, or are welcome to join our regular liturgical minister schedule.

o Teen Taco Dinner and Service Project: Join us immediately after the Teen

Mass on Sunday, September 23rd from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Ministry Center (beside the church). We’ll enjoy a taco bar and make flashcards for Classroom Central. Click here for more information and to RSVP for the dinner and service project.

Freshman Parent Q&A: Parents of freshmen, please plan to attend one of the two Freshman Parent Q&A programs, which will take place this week. Parents of students with last names A – Le should attend tomorrow, September 19th at 8:00 a.m. in the Library. Parents of freshmen with last names Li – Z should attend on Thursday, September 20th at 8:00 a.m. in the Library.

STUDENT NEWS

New Advice Column in the Catholic Chronicle: Students, the school newspaper now will feature an advice column! Any students who would like advice may email their problems or questions to [email protected]. All published problems and questions will remain anonymous. The Catholic Chronicle can be accessed on the school website by clicking here.

CCHS Mountain Bike Club Team: Mountain Biking is a co-ed sport that is growing nationwide. Come learn more about the new CCHS Mountain Bike Club Team at Club Day, the rescheduled date for which will be announced soon. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements for additional information.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

Caritas Service Days: Students, if you are involved in a charity or service

project on a regular basis, please contact MJ Dawson in Campus Ministry at [email protected] and let her know for our Caritas Service Days. Thank you.

Kairos Retreat: Kairos #42 is scheduled for Friday, October 12th through Sunday, October 14th at Camp Thunderbird. The retreat is open to all juniors and seniors. COUNSELING

College Visits: Please review the following list of colleges and universities that will visit CCHS this week. Juniors and seniors who are interested in speaking with a representative from these colleges and universities should go to Naviance and print the confirmation page, which serves as the pass to attend. The full list of college visits for the school year can be found on Naviance. Wednesday, September 19th Christopher Newport University 9:00 a.m. Davidson College 11:45 a.m. Babson College 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20th Furman University 8:00 a.m. Saint Leo University 2:00 p.m.

College Application Boot Camp Postponed: The Boot Camp session originally scheduled for Sunday, September 16th has been postponed until Sunday, September 23rd.

Service Academy Day: Students interested in attending a service academy are invited, along with their parents, to attend Service Academy Day on Saturday, September 22nd from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The event will be held at Wake Tech’s Southern (Main) Campus, located at 9101 Fayetteville Road in Raleigh. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. Attendees will be able to meet with representatives from each service academy, ask questions about the nomination process and requirements, and meet one-on-one with a staff member from Senator Thom Tillis’ office. Registration is not required. Call (919) 856-4630 if questions.

Christian College Fair: Charlotte Christian School will host a Christian College Fair on Monday, September 24th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Click here for more information.

Game Day: Talk, Tour, and Tailgate: Lenoir-Rhyne University is hosting an

event on Saturday, September 29th for students interested in learning more about the school. Students and two guests are invited to attend a Lenoir-Rhyne football game, explore the campus, and learn more about the university. Students and guests receive free game admission and a complimentary dinner. Check-in is at 1:00 p.m., dinner is at 5:15 p.m., and kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. Click here to register. CLUB NEWS

CCHS Club Day: Club Day has been postponed. Please continue to check the

Daily Announcements for the rescheduled date. Remember that Charlotte Catholic has clubs on campus to fit the interests of every student. Club Day is a great opportunity to learn more about the many clubs on campus, which involve service, sports, games, hobbies, art, language, charity, faith, and more. All students are encouraged to learn more, sign up, and become involved!

CCHS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

CCHS Athletic Association: Brand RPM is offering Senior Sports Yard signs for

sale throughout the school year. Senior families can order yard signs directly from Brand RPM by clicking here. Questions may be directed to Brand RPM by clicking “contact us” at the bottom of the Brand RPM webpage.

CCHS FOUNDATION

Kara Kloiber Memorial Scholarship: Kara Ann Kloiber ’93 cherished her time at

CCHS. She saw her school as a faith community where friends lasted forever and teachers became like family. Kara’s family established a scholarship in her memory, which provides tuition support to current CCHS students. Students may click here to print an application through the CCHS Foundation website, or see Mrs. Smith in the Guidance Office for a copy. Applications must be completed by students and signed by parents, and are due to Mrs. Smith on or before Thursday, September 20th.

Corporate Giving: Fall is the season for many corporate giving campaigns.

CCHS parents, please take a moment to review the CCHS Foundation flyer at the end of the announcements for information on employee donations, matching donations, corporate giving campaigns, and more. PTO Coffee with Kurt: Parents are invited to join CCHS Principal Kurt Telford and fellow parents for coffee on Tuesday, September 25th from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the CCHS Library. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements. This is an opportunity to ask questions and express concerns, so please come and stay as long as your schedule allows!

SPORTS NEWS

Congratulations to Ari Rodriguez, who has been nominated as one of the WSOC-TV Big 22 Players to Watch! Our CCHS community is invited to vote for Ari to become one of five finalists. The voting period closes on Thursday, October 4th at 11:59 p.m. Should Ari be voted a finalist, a second voting period will open, and if he wins the contest, he receives a trophy and on-air recognition, and CCHS receives $10,000. Please vote for Ari by clicking here. You may vote up to nine times per day.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Opportunity for Service Hours: The St. Gabriel Men’s Club will hold its annual Oyster Roast on October 20th, and many hands are needed. Help is needed that day from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for setup, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for serving, and from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. for cleanup. Help also is needed on Sunday, October 21st from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. for equipment breakdown. Students needing service hours are asked to volunteer by contacting Mr. Pete Mussoni at [email protected].
