ButterflyThis year’s signature detail of our collection? It can hardly be overlooked - the butterfly. There are about 11, 000 butterfly species in the world and hundreds more are being disco-vered every year. In Europe alone, there are at least 4000 species that flutter silently and elegantly over the fields and meadows. Artists from Caravaggio to Vladimir Nabokov to Damien Hirst have been fascinated by the butterfly. “I tried to see the world through the imaginary eyes of a butterfly” writes the great literary figure Nabokov in a letter. In the body of a butterfly, poetry and precision merge in the most beautiful ways possible. In this limited collection, it was a real challenge for us to be faithful to the butterfly’s delicate anatomy. Our goldsmiths worked countless days in our atelier on the transformation, of which more than 100 hours were spent patiently inserting the jewels in to this precision work. Now amethysts, silver, diamonds and rose quartz sparkle amongst stylized butterfly blossoms from dreamy blue distances. Gifts from the heavens.

The 69-year old star hairdresser loves his work sincerely and works 12 hours a day in his hair salons. He also interviews interesting personalities for TV-Berlin, is writing a book and is responsible for his more than 90 employees. We had the opportunity to steal a few minutes of his precious time in his hair salon in Berlin. D

SO SWEET!

Mr Walz, one could say that you are a star. 90 percent of the Germans know you. Are you even aware of this?Laughs. Thank you, but I am just a regular hairdresser, exactly like my colleagues. I have been working in my profession for more than 45 years and during this time I have had the opportunity to cut or style the hair of many stars. Does this make me a star? I don’t know, but so far I have made the best of it and I would do it again exactly the same way. I am a happy person.

You adorn people by transforming their hair thus creating new looks. Do you think that this externally visible transformation leads to people changing inside as well? Of course, many of my customers come into my salon out of that reason only. They want a transformation as they are longing for change. To quote Oscar Wilde: “Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul.”

Our this year’s beauty messenger for spring is the butterfly. Which secret tips for a successful start into this beautiful season do you have at hand? Spring, everything blossoms in new glory. To me that means that glowing, lustrous hair colours and trendy looks freshen the street picture again. The general trend colour for 2014 is “Radiant Orchid”, a mix of fuchsia, pink and violet. It’s interesting that the trend researchers conceive a “colour of the year” each year. Last year it was emerald green. This has absolutely no relevance for my colourations.

Which sound does silence have for you?I find silence terrible and it reminds me of a loud unspeakable noise! Silence means standing still and that one is at a point at which one doesn’t know what will happen next. I don’t like silence except at night.

If someone gave you tickets to any destination where would you go and why?I would like to travel around all the castles in Germany and spend two days at each important castle, walking around it and internalizing its history and then go on to the next. Germany has so many magical places to discover. You don’t always have to get on a plane, isn’t that great?

Herr Walz, man darf behaupten, dass Sie ein Star sind. 90 Prozent der Deutschen kennen Sie. Ist Ihnen das überhaupt bewusst?Lacht. Danke, aber ich bin ein ganz normaler Friseur, genau wie meine Kollegen auch. Ich übe meinen Beruf schon seit mehr als 45 Jahren aus und habe in dieser Zeit die Möglichkeit gehabt, vielen Prominenten die Haare zu schneiden oder sie zu stylen. Macht mich das zu einem Star? Ich weiß nicht, aber ich habe bisher das Beste dar-aus gemacht und würde es jederzeit genauso wieder machen. Ich bin ein glücklicher Mensch.

Sie schmücken Menschen, indem Sie Haare verwandeln und dadurch neue Köpfe kreieren. Glauben Sie, dass sich Menschen durch diese äußere, sichtbare Verwandlung auch innerlich verwandeln? Aber sicher, viele meiner Kunden kommen genau deswegen in meine Salons. Sie wollen eine Verwandlung, weil sie sich nach einer Veränderung sehnen. Um es mit Oscar Wilde zu sagen: „Es kommt darauf an, den Körper mit der Seele und die Seele durch den Körper zu heilen.”

Unser Schönheitsbote für den Frühling ist dieses Jahr der Schmetterling. Welchen Geheimtipp für einen erfolgreichen Start in diese schöne Jahreszeit haben Sie parat?Frühling, alles erblüht in neuer Pracht, das heißt für mich, leuchtende, glänzende Haar-farben und trendige Looks beleben wieder das Straßenbild. Die allgemeine Trendfarbe 2014 lautet „Radiant Orchid”, ein Mix aus Fuchsia, Pink und Violett. Interessant, dass die Trendforscher sich jedes Jahr die „Farbe des Jahres” ausdenken. Letztes Jahr war es Smaragdgrün. Für meine Colorationen hat das überhaupt keine Relevanz.

Welchen Klang hat Stille für Sie?Stille ist für mich schrecklich und erinnert mich an einen lauten, unsäglichen Klang! Stille bedeutet Stillstand und man ist an einem Punkt, an dem man nicht weiß, was als Nächstes passiert. Ich mag Stille nicht, außer nachts.

Man schenkt Ihnen eine Reise zu einem beliebigen Ziel: Wohin würden Sie fahren und – warum?Ich würde gerne eine Schlösser-Reise durch  Deutschland unternehmen und in jedem mir wichtigen Schloss zwei Tage verweilen, es besichtigen, seine Geschichte ver-innerlichen und danach weiter ins nächste ziehen. Deutschland hat so viele magische Orte, die man entdecken kann. Man muss nicht immer in den Flieger steigen, ist das nicht großartig?
