Hello and Welcome!

Firstly I would like to send my sincerest apologies for the newsletter being inconsistent recently however I can assure you that through recruitment and a review of procedures this will now be rectified. I would personally like to thank you all for bearing with us and for your patience over recent months whilst our refurbishments have taken place in the home and would love for you all to join us on May 7th to see the finished product and enjoy some entertainment.

News In and Around 2018 So Far….

The Children’s Phoenix Foundation - Lamb Visit A lovely group of very young lambs came to visit us this March. The Children’s Phoenix Foundation came along so that residents and staff could enjoy cuddles and feeding time. They previously came in with donkeys and it was such a hit with the residents we just couldn’t resist it when they had lambs! There were plenty of smiles as the lambs went to every room as well as communal areas so every resident had the opportunity for a cuddle and a photo. We are looking forward to welcoming lots more animals in the near future with reindeers on the cards for Christmas!

St Patrick’s Day Fun

We celebrated St Patrick’s Day with all things green. Residents and staff all had great fun with our photo booth props. We enjoyed an Irish quiz where Veronica won herself an early Easter egg plus some of our ladies decorated cakes and made green smoothies.

Christmas 2017… atat Chater Another festive period was enjoyed by all here at Chater Lodge, with plenty of visiting entertainers including; musicians, Rutland rejuvenated choir and the local school choir. Residents enjoyed singing along to carols, eating mince pies and drinking mulled wine! We had our annual Christmas party with our residents and it was filled with lots of fun games, presents and good food for all plus the day was topped off by a sing and dance along with entertainment from Alan Jackson!

News In and Around What’s Been Happening…

The Rutland Poppy Project

Indoor Garden Our maintenance Manager here at Chater Lodge is Clive Jackson. Clive has set himself a project for the residents on Memory Lane. He has had his heart set on this for a few years now but has never had the funding, just a folder full of ideas. Well now not only is downstairs getting a makeover but so is Memory Lane! We have recently had Memory Lane redecorated with 3 different themes; The Village Shop, Pets/Animals and a Village Garden. This is the perfect opportunity for Clive to fulfil his dream. There will be a few fundraising events over the next couple of months to raise the money to make our Maintenance Manager one very happy man. So keep an eye out on the noticeboards!

Easter at Chater Lodge was celebrated with a themed quiz, residents did some nest making crafts and we had a relaxed afternoon watching The Wizard of Oz and Easter Parade. Our Easter eggs were also delivered by some little bunnies! It was a fun filled day finished with residents indulging in lovely choccies!

Easter…

We have a couple of ladies joining us on May 22nd so we can be part of the Rutland Poppy Project. During Oct/Nov 2018, 10,000 clay poppies will be displayed at Oakham castle to commemorate 100 years since the end of the Great War. These poppies will be made through workshops being held around the county so the people of Rutland can make a poppy. Our residents will be making theirs at 1.45pm in the lounge. You are welcome to join us, assist or make your own poppy or just come along and say hello!

Bridging the Gap We are very pleased to announce a buddy scheme with the local primary school over the coming months. We will join forces with the reception class known as the flamingo class of 4 and 5 year olds. A small group of children will be visiting us regularly to share stories, songs, games and arts & crafts with any residents who wish to participate. Recent studies have shown many benefits for elder generations and children who spend time together so we are happy to be leading the way with this.

Open Day

Stamford Carnival

Royal Wedding

We would like to invite you all to our open day which will be held on Monday 7th May from 11:00-16:00. This year we will be revealing our homes refurbishment so please do come along! Our theme is High Tea with cakes and sandwiches being freshly made by our head chef. A magician will also be coming in and Gavin Burke will be joining us for a sing a long in the afternoon. Games and quizzes will be going on throughout the day. We hope it will be a fun filled day with staff and residents dressing up in their best clothes for the occasion!

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is taking place on 19 May 2018 at Windsor Castle. Here at Chater Lodge to celebrate the day residents and staff will be putting on their best clothes, alcoholic beverages will be passed around throughout the day and tea and cake will be served on royal cups and saucers. Residents and family are welcome to join us as we sit in the lounge and watch the big day! We also have a cardboard cutout of the Queen ready for the wedding pictures, and the celebrations will continue with Royal Music and a Royal Quiz. We invite you all to come along and celebrate the day with us.

The annual Stamford Carnival is coming around soon and we all are ready and hoping for another fantastic day. It will be our 6th year and we hope to keep the success of winning the Best Commercial Float award! The day is filled with fun and residents and staff do enjoy a good dress up! So keep a look out on the noticeboards, we will be revealing the theme very soon!
