Introduction

The family Pteromalidae is one of the 23 families in

superfamily Chalcidoidea. The family currently includes 588

genera and 3,506 species placed in 31 subfamilies. This

group are probably the most difficult to define cladistically or

phenetically. No single feature or suite of features will separate

all species of Pteromalidae from all other subfamilies.

The life-histories of taxa in this family are extremely varied.

There are solitary and gregarious species, ectoparasitoids and

endoparasitoids, koinobionts and idiobionts, primary and

secondary parasitoids and even predators.

To date, only 57 species of 37 genera belonging to five

subfamilies have been recorded from south korea.

South Korea has 22 national parks. Among them, only one

species of Pteromalidae ‘Pteromalus puparum (Linnaeus)’

recorded in Hallasan National Park (한라산연구소 2007).

In this paper, we present Check list of Pteromalidae in

Korea National Park with new korean names for each

species. Also Vrestovia fidenas (Walker) is recorded for the

first time from south korea.

As a result, 58 species of 38 genera in Pteromalidae are

recorded from south korea.

Materials and Method

Materials used in this study were collected by sweeping

and malaise trapping, after which they were deposited in the

animal systematic laboratory of Yeungnam University (YNU,

Gyeongsan, South Korea). Morphological terminology follows

mostly that of Gibson (1997). Specimens were examined

using an AxioCam MRc5 camera attached to a stereo

microscope (Zeiss SteREO Discovery. V20), processed using

AxioVision SE64 software (Carl Zeiss), and optimized with a

Delta imaging system (i-solution).
