“MOTHERS’ WEEK” was celebrated at the toddlers wing
from 15th-19th
March 2010. The aim was to provide
opportunity for Mothers to spend time with the child at the school as well as get familiar with the school activities. A setup of different activity centers were organized, some of which consisted of making play dough, creating “treasures out of trash” by using junk materials like boxes, bottles, paper plates, sand, stones, seeds. There was a reading area and a cloth washing area too. Mothers and their toddlers participated enthusiastically in all areas. The children had smiles on their faces as they showed off their talents to their mothers.
Toddlers Commemorate Martyrdom of Lady Fatema (a.s)
On Friday 21st May 2010, the Al Muntazir Toddlers commemorated the martyrdom of the lady of light Bibi Fatema Zahra (a.s). All the teachers dressed in black on that day to pay
tribute to the holy lady, and acted out a short drama together with some children, about how to behave in the mosque. A short talk was given about the noble characters of Bibi Fatema (a.s) in a simple way to suit the toddler’s level, after which Dua –e-Hujjat and Dua- e- wahda were recited to end the program.

On Saturday 29th May 2010, the Toddlers wing was bustling with Parents for a workshop on Mathematics. About 40 Parents registered for the workshop which was facilitated by the teachers of Toddlers aimed to explain the development of Math Concepts in young children through the early childhood years till the age of 5 years. The workshop enlightened the parents through the Principles of Counting that children discover as they explore the environment and interact with adults. Activities related to concepts such as Serration, Sorting, Matching, Measurements and Patterning were laid out with explanations on how children develop and practise these concepts through play. With this understanding, parents toured a section showing
how Math is taught at the Toddlers during block play, sand and water play, dramatic play, art activities, etc. All these activities were demonstrated to give an idea to Parents as to how they can implement and encourage Math activities at home through simple activities. The session ended with a small assignment for the Parents, whereby they had to create two Math activities from the limited open ended materials provided to them. The parents enjoyed working together in a small group. We got lots of lovely ideas from them!

Splash Day Friday the 11th of June 2010, was
a memorable day for the entire staff and children at the Toddlers. They all joined in the water for splashing in the paddling pool, water tubs and water tables. There were sprinklers, pipe hoses, watering cans and bubbles to play that shielded no one but all were wet. The day was filled with lots of fun and excitement in the
playground. It surely was a very memorable day ending with children saying goodbyes for the holidays.
Young children need opportunities to explore the
world around them, thus the KG II and Montessori II at the AMUNS visited the Kinondoni Market on 21st & 22nd April 2010 to learn
about different “fruits and vegetables”.
The vendors were very co-operative and let the children touch and feel the fruits and vegetables. Children discussed the names, colors and also sang rhymes on fruits and vegetables.
Children were then accompanied back to the buses while some fruits and vegetables were bought for the children to taste at school. The trip was a great success and proved to be a great learning experience for the children.

On 7th May 2010, the pupils of KG III - Class A presented a lively item on ‘Wild Animals’.
Children who were dressed up in animal costumes came
onstage and introduced themselves as the character they were representing.
They were then joined in by their peers and sang a beautiful rhyme which highlighted the whole act and left the rest of the children humming it all the way back to their classes.
Friday Activity
In order to strengthen the Teacher-Parent partnership, an
Open Day was held on 14th May 2010.
Parents had a chance to go through their children’s books and receive a
detailed report of their children’s performance while discussing ways of helping their children in the areas required.
The swimming instructors were also available by the poolside to attend to parents queries and discuss about children’s development in this area. A few of the school workbooks, including the 3rd years reading book that was launched on the same day, were also kept on sale.
This term an average of 91% of the parents attended the conference, which we hope will bring a positive change in our children’s day to day school life.

June was an exciting month at AMUNS with lots of exciting events happening, Mothers Day being one. Building a culture of fostering interactive hand in hand activity through love and understanding was the focal idea for this event. The Children’s enthusiasm showed in their emotional rendering of a mother’s virtues through poems, special sayings and quotes. There was a fascinating activity for the 3rd years which began with the participants visiting The Shoe Mart, where mothers selected slippers and got seated on tables with assorted materials such as paints, sequins and glue.
Participants were given the freedom to beautify their slippers. It was indeed inspiring to see our children blossom with creativity and designs while working collectively with their mothers. The outcome was nothing less than spectacular. All in all, it was tremendously gratifying to see the smiles on the mothers’ and children’s faces which made everyone’s day a lot brighter!
Fathers Day
11th June 2010, being the last day of school, children looked colorful and excited for the class party, it also marked an eventful day for the 3rd years’ fathers. A “Dad & Me” program was organized in the hall where each father accompanied by their child entered the hall holding a large mug in scripted with the word ‘DAD’ on it. The fathers worked hand in hand with their children in decorating the mugs. A power point presentation was put up to guide the parents of the tools and on steps to be taken.
It was a touching moment to witness all the fathers working together with their children and some struggling hard to do everything right. At the end of it, we saw amazing pieces of artwork that proved that “fathers can be creative as well!”

The AMBPS assemblies, which include prayers, are an important
feature of our school's life. The assemblies function as one of the main ways
by which we create our positive reflective ethos and promote our values based education. The benefits of our school
assemblies to both individuals and the school in general are enormous and heightens awareness of the needs of others, promotes good behaviour based on self-discipline; helps in development of spiritual intelligence; raises achievement and standards; builds confidence and conviction in students’ abilities respect for different culture and values. The pictures reflect how self assured our children are in their different programs. We take this opportunity to invite parents to feel free and join us during our school assemblies, on Tuesdays or Fridays, to enjoy the beauty of childhood blithe!!!

Arithmetic is numbers you squeeze from your head to your hand to your pencil to your paper till you get the answer. - Carl Sandburg, "Arithmetic" The Grade 3 children of Boys Primary visited ‘Shoprite Supermarket’ as a part the ‘Year of Mathematics’ activities. The boys were asked to apply the concepts learnt in class. They were asked to make the payment, collect the change and neatly pocket the receipt in their
pockets. Interesting whispers were head as they discussed about the high prices in the supermarket and how mummy and daddy would make such huge payments when they went with their families. Value for money was evident as they had to think, calculate and then make a choice. We are grateful to the staff of Shoprite who accorded a warm welcome to our pupils and guided them well.

Students, teachers and staff at Boys Primary School spent the Assembly time on 30th April 2010, paying tribute to Mr. Ogaja on their final day together. After 5 years as Principal, Mr. Ogaja was honored in an array of ways by teacher and students. One class chose to prepare a "test" for him to see if he could qualify for retirement. Another class used the letters of his name to share their memories. Another group rewrote the words of a familiar song to express their feelings. A group of teachers sang a farewell song composed by them with tears rolling down their cheeks. A lunch was organised by the School to honor his services
and token of appreciation was handed over as a memento. There is much to be proud of Ogaja’s 5 year contribution to AMBPS, indeed being the architect, of the Lower School. All of Al Muntazir Boys Primary School community wish Mr. Ogaja well. Mr. Ogaja has made a lasting impression on the children and staff of Al Muntazir Boys Primary and he will truly be missed.

‘Healthy living Is So Cool’. This slogan was introduced in Al Muntazir Schools last year and it has come to stay. Children of Grade 2 visited Game and Shoprite Supermarkets at Milimani City where pupils had to apply their knowledge of food groups. Pupils were divided into three food groups namely, Carbohydrates, Vitamins and Proteins. All excited, they boarded the bus with their badges of food groups neatly pinned on their pockets. They had to purchase food items
according to their allocated group. After finishing this round of shopping, the pupils were then allowed to visit the stationery aisle. True enough, ‘Math is Everywhere’ said one child as he tried to solve the equation of how much money he had and how much he remained with. Children returned with a feeling of satisfaction where they learned and enjoyed at the same time.

The First Cub Scouts ‘Day Camp’ took place on 12th June 2010 when they visited the ‘Community Widows Home’ to celebrate ‘Mothers Day’ with
them and presenting them with gifts. Our student Abdallah’s short but touching speech brought tears into
everyone’s eyes. We thank Mrs. Zubeida Dewji, the co-coordinator of the Widows Home, for accommodating our Cubs for the above mentioned event.

As part of its career guidance strategies, ALMIS organized a Career Choice Session for Form 2 students, with the aim of guiding them on how to select between Science and Arts at Form 3. Mrs. Alidina; the School’s Career Counselor, facilitated the event and presented information to the students on the importance of choosing the right career path at this stage in order to avoid regrets in the future. She explained to the students that choice of career should not
just be done because the ‘others’ are doing it. She outlined the factors to consider before going for either Science or Arts. At the end of the session, the students were given forms to be taken to the parents for their contribution to this crucial decision making process. Parents are welcome to visit the school and meet the career counselor by appointment, for any explanations regarding their child’s career choice.
