Pioneering Pathways to Sustainability PWCS Energy & Sustainability Summer Shutdown Summertime Shutdowns have a big impact on lowering the Division’s utility costs. Did you know that turning off technology, unplugging small appliances, and turning off lights can help the Division save approximately $1.5 million in utility costs this summer? Before you leave for summer break, please prepare your area for the Energy Management Program Shutdown. CHECKLIST Turn off technology*. Clean out and unplug small appliances that can be unplugged without damage. Where possible, unplug electronics. Where possible, set individual thermostats to 85 degrees, AUTO, and “Cool”. Close and lock windows, leave blinds open and all the way up. Last out? Turn lights off. *Leave computers on for IT system maintenance. CAUTION Caution and common sense should be used where potential facility damage could result from implementation of these conservation procedures. Remember that some items need to be left on to ensure security, proper start-up, or to avoid memory loss; this list does not supersede any procedures that are in place to ensure proper functionality of equipment or facilities within the school.
