the toast on Sunday morning. Thank you to our Parents’ Committee for running the Mother’s Day stall today.
CROSS COUNTRY
The children have been doing lots of fitness work in preparation for our School Cross country held on Thursday. Thank you to Mrs Robinson for her organisation and Staff and parent helpers for assisting in this cold weather.
NAPLAN TESTING
The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be conducted with all Year 3 & 5 students from Tuesday May 15th – Thursday May 17th. These assessments provide a snapshot of where each students’ learning is currently placed and this information, combined with the comprehensive teacher assessments conducted all year, assist in identifying student academic achievement as well as learning needs for the future. Parents are advised to make an appointment with their child’s teacher (Grade 3 & 5 only) if they wish to discuss the NAPLAN further.
SPECIAL FOOD DAY
Thank you to the following ladies who gave up their own time and came in and helped to organise the special food day on Wednesday for our children – Tineke Watson, Nicole Sutherland, Ange Berry, Shelley Diaz and Jodie Marsh. The children loved the food presented and enjoyed the change from their normal lunches.
COMING SOON - EDUCATION WEEK
May 20th – 27th is Education Week. This is the time to officially celebrate learning and all things educational. The theme of this year’s Education Week is, ‘Celebrating the Arts.’ There is an open morning for interested parents to come along and see what your children are doing at school on Wednesday 23rd May from 9.30-11am.
LOST JUMPERS AND JACKETS
We have a number of unnamed jumpers and jackets which are destined for our second-hand uniform shop once they are washed. PLEASE ensure that all your child’s property (including lunch boxes) is clearly labelled so we can return it immediately.
YEAR 6 CAMP
I had a wonderful time at the Year 6 Camp at Billabong Ranch near Echuca. The children and staff travelled up by train and enjoyed some amazing activities including riding a paddle steamer, horse and carriage rides, horse grooming, bungee trampolining, roping, orienteering and much more. The camp staff commented in particular on the kids’ manners and said how unusual it was to hear so many pleases and thankyous from a school! Well done to our children. Thank you to our amazing staff Mr Crebbin, Miss Stygall, Mr Hughes, Miss Cecil and Miss Morrow for their amazing dedication, leaving their families behind and giving so much of their time for the children.

Thought for the Week
Happy Mother’s Day to all mums!!

CEPS KIDS ARE
FRIENDLY KIDS
This term we are working on
RESPECT and next week we are looking at
Voice
Along with body language, learning how we should use our voice is very important. Often it is not the words we say, but how we say them, that really lets people know how we feel. We can use the tone and volume of our voice to convey lots of messages. Just think how many different ways you can say the word “no”. Think about the way you use your voice to show people that you are friendly. Even when you have to say something that is difficult or you have to disagree with someone, you can use your voice in a way that is fair and friendly, not mean or unfriendly. Perhaps in your class next week you can practise using your voice in many different ways and see what messages it sends.

In Jan to March this year the Kebale Agroforestry Network expanded their junior landcare activities to
three new schools in the Kabale and Rubanda Districts of Uganda, including Rwere Primary School,
sponsored by Cheltenham East Primary School in Victoria, Australia. The school has been favoured by
the Feb and March rains and activities are progressing well including planting of seeds in the school
garden and building fencing around the gardens. The school has started a nursery to raise their own tree
seedlings. They were provided with Grevillia and Guava fruit seedlings, which have also been planted.
Premier’s Reading Challenge The Premier’s Reading Challenge is an event which we have participated in since it began in 2006. Children in Foundation to Year 2 are required to read 30 books and those in Year 3-6, 15 books. Children are given recognition for their reading in the form of a certificate. Names of children who complete the challenge are listed in a special online Honour Roll which is published in October.
Should you prefer that your child’s name is not included in the list would you please notify the office by Friday 1st June. Thank you.

WoW Wednesdays Safe Routes to School Program
It’s back! Walk or Wheels (WoW) Wednesdays are
happening again this term! The class with the highest
percentage of students walking, riding or scooting to and from school, or highest
improvement will receive the silver trophy!
Our Grade 6 leaders have collected out data this week and will announce the
silver trophy winners at Wednesday Morning Assembly.
National Walk to School Day is Coming!
National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is on Friday 18 May 2018. This campaign and
annual event where all primary school children, their parents and carers are encouraged to
walk and commute regularly and safely to school. It is a community event seeking to promote
Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
Australian children are becoming less active. One substantial
contributor is the decline in walking and/or taking public
transport to school. Children who are regularly physically
active are healthier, perform better academically and less
likely to be obese or overweight, which can lead to the long-
term and costly risks of heart disease and diabetes etc. Walking
regularly is the best exercise because you can build it into your
daily routine.
We will be holding our Walk to School Day celebration on Friday 18th May 2018. There will
be no official WoW Wednesday that week, with data being collected on the Friday instead.
Students are invited to Ride, Scoot or Walk to and from school in a safe manner.
