Alantum Chemical Process Technologies
But technology moves on. And serious, substantive and
measurable process intensification is now a reality. Exten-
sive data proves irrefutably that a process built around or
retro-fitted to incorporate alloy foam-based catalysis works
better, boosting efficiency and reducing carbon footprint.
It makes small reactors viable and large ones more produc-
tive, with:
Lower energy consumption•
Reduced downtime•
Longer service intervals•
Maximum catalyst lifecycle•
Easier, more predictable and less costly maintenance•
Bringing drastically reduced operating costs, and reliable
production to consistent standards. Along with a better,
more energy efficient world.
Making small reactors viable and large ones more productive
Heterogeneous catalysis technology is at the heart of all chemical, petrochemi-cal and energy processes. Given the vast investments such processes involve, the need to maximise leverage, and the high costs of failure, resistance to change is understandable.
At Alantum Chemical Process Techno-
logies, we offer not just a material that
can transform reactor performance,
but the world’s leading store of alloy
foam IP expertise and a total commit-
ment to help our clients capitalize fully
on its potential.
We work with them to develop and de-
liver the solution that most precisely
meets their requirements, with:
Partnership for productivity
Alloy foam characterisation data•
Performance test data•
Customized model development•
Reactor and process simulation •
using CFD and Aspen Plus
Literature survey and the latest pu- •
blications on foam applications in
heterogeneous catalysis
From enquiry through development,
production and installation, we com-
mit to our clients’ success at every
stage up to implementation and com-
mercial exploitation.

A breakthrough technology
Heterogeneous catalysis technology has reached a plateau, with any further improvements likely to be incremental and small. Alantum alloy metal foam substrates offer breakthrough performance, boosting mass & heat transfer in many heterogenous catalysis processes.
Far higher productivity, reduced energy usage, better heat manage-
ment, less hot spots, longer life time, and lower greenhouse gas
emissions.
The result?
Our key advantages are
6
An adaptable technology
Our powder metallurgy process, using mono metal foam
from leading manufacturers, assures a homogenous alloy
composition delivering uniform mechanical and chemical
stability, compatibility with the wash coat, and predictable
pressure drop.
Our powder-sintering technology can produce foam sheets
or blocks to be cut and shaped into pellets, enabling easy
substitution for ceramic.
Flat or shaped, corrugated or rolled, foam sheets can be
used to create structures to fit any reactor design. Easy to
design into a new reactor; easy to install in an existing one.
Alantum alloy foam is available in a wide range of different alloy compositions. In addition, we can control pore size, strut thickness, surface roughness and shape. Give us the specification; we can give you the foam – any spec, any shape, any size.
With its efficient manufacturing network consisting of production facilities in
Korea and China, Alantum ensures high production capacities at the highest
possible quality standards.
At our facilities in China and Korea, we produce over 1 million liters of alloy foam
every year, in a patented powder metallurgical process for converting base alloy
foam into alloy, under a quality management system certified to ISO 9002.

The surface of the foam is made ca-
talytically active by a thin layer of
catalytic washcoat. Alantum powder
sintering technology also enables the
formation of leachable type interme-
tallics on the surface of foams such as
nickel foam, as precursors for highly
active Raney type catalysts.
The pore diffusion resistance of the re-
actants and products through this thin
catalytic layer is significantly reduced,
offering:
High effectiveness factor•
Higher volumetric efficiency•
Increased yield and selectivity•
Alantum alloy foam has a 3D matrix structure that con-tinually disrupts and distorts the flow path, producing exceptional mixing that enhances the accessibility of the reactants, products and heat to and from the surface.
Flow streamlines through foam 3D structure
The upshot:superior selectivity and productivity levels compared
to ceramic-based processes.
Long-lasting, low-maintenance, energy-efficient
catalysis that reduces greenhouse gas emissions:
lower costs; higher profitability.
