Jungle Jim’s Field TripArticle by Joshua Baker

On Friday, March 17, CHESS took a field trip to Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, OH. Jungle Jim is a real person who is still alive today. He had a dream that came to life. That’s how the store originated in 1971.

Jungle Jim’s looks like a theme park due to the unusual displays. The candy section has Coney Island bumper cars. There is a singing, Chuck-E-Cheese Elvis in the candy section. The world’s largest gummy python and frog sit next to each other.

The store is gigantic! There are 6.5 acres of floor space and 180,000 items for sale. Over 60,000 items are international. We tried some samples and shopped for food. I ate a cheddar larvae! It tasted horrible! I would recommend Jungle Jim’s if you are looking for a bizarre shopping experience. It offers unique food and entertainment.

Hello CHESS family! This issue is going to be a little different, as I will be talking about our school's musical Beauty and the Beast Jr. Many students at CHESS are involved in Beauty and the Beast Jr., and they are all very excited to put on the show. They stay after school for rehearsal on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The cast is working tirelessly. The wonderful creative team of Mr. and Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Rondeau, and Mrs. Smith are hard at work to make the show goes off without a hitch. Please come out to see the show and support CHESS on May 5th and 6th. This 75 minute show is not to be missed! Tickets are on sale before/after school and at lunch for $5 each.

Toby Mac Hits Deep Tour

Article by Kyle Geitgey

Many CHESS students attended the sold out Hits Deep Tour on Friday, March 10th. Toby Mac brought in some of the best singers including Mandisa, Matt Maher, Capital Kings, Ryan Stevenson, Hollyn, and Mac Powell of Third Day. The crowd was ecstatic! Most people did not sit down for the three and a half hour show.

There were many styles of music played. Mac Powell shared new music from his secular country record. Toby Mac and Capital Kings rapped, spun records, and performed hip hop music. Ryan Stevenson and Matt Maher sang praise and worship style. Mandisa and Hollyn hit all the high notes and kept the crowd energized. My favorite song was “Light Shine Bright” by Toby Mac because everyone took their phone out, put the light on, and waved their phones in an arch. The concert ended with a party where pre-selected concert attendees joined the artists on-stage. Confetti rained from the ceiling. It was an awesome and unforgettable evening.

Music and Dance

Column by Bethany Crank

Hello CHESS family! The March issue of Dance featured Aran Bell, a dancer with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). Aran Bell got his fame at the age of 11 from starring in a documentary called First Position. I want to draw attention to men in the field of ballet. I've heard a lot of people say that ballet is not manly enough for boys. However, ballet requires a lot of athletic ability. As a dancer, I know! Every day I perform cardiovascular exercise and stretching. Men in ballet are expected to do the same stretches and moves as the women. When I go to Dayton Ballet performances, I stay for a Q&A with the cast. The dancers report that after a day of ballet, they head to the gym to workout. So you see, ballet takes a LOT of athletic ability. I hope that changed the way you think about dancers, especially men that perform ballet.

The MustangBy Lexi Vitas

The Mustang is one of the most recognized horses in the West. Besides the Chincoteague Pony, they are most likely the first breed you heard about.

Mustangs were first brought over from Spain by Captain Cortez as Spanish moor horses. They must have thought wild was better than spurs so they made it happen. Morning after morning the men kept finding their mounts missing. “Oh well,” they said. “The Indians

Dolphin Tale

Review by Samantha Terry

Dolphin Tale is about a dolphin named Winter. Winter lost her tail after being caught in a fishing net. Once Winter was rescued, she went to Clear Water Aquarium in Florida. One of the doctors at Clearwater Aquarium had the idea to make a prosthetic tail for Winter. This movie is based off a true story. I have been to Clearwater Aquarium and saw Winter. It was very cool. I rate this movie 9 out of 10 stars.

These Are My People

Review by Josh Huff

These Are My People is about how Gladys Aylward, a missionary, spread the love of God through China. She has a difficult time at first, but soon everyone knew her and liked her a lot. I like These Are My People because it is exciting and full of God’s Word. Gladys went on a dangerous trip and reads the Bible to people who have never heard it. I give this book 8 out of 10 stars.
