Exalted Ruler’s Message
September is designated Patriotism month, a month we should
reflect on as an important Elk cornerstone. In this election year, we
don’t need to be reminded of the importance of voting. American
flag pins will be given out at the tractor pull on September 10th. We
will be having a memorial service for our deceased member, Pete
Miller, on that day ; and I am told he loved to see the American flag.
Please make an effort to come out and show your American spirit on
that day and on every day.
The Lodge has many coming events which are mentioned later in the newsletter. Come
out and enjoy one of these Lodge activities or better yet...come out and volunteer at one
of these events which might interest you.
You may have already donated to ENF but, I want to remind you to help us reach the GER
Elks National Foundation goal of $4.65 capita and the state goal of $10 per capita.
Reaching these goals enables us to get ENF grants which help veterans, children, and our
community. We will be having a special raffle and a dinner for the benefit of the Elks
National Foundation. Please support both of these events.
The Grand Lodge District Deputy, John Ramsey from Dover Lodge, will be making his offi-
cial visit to our Lodge at our September 6th meeting. Please try to attend this meeting to
gain more knowledge about the Elks and its programs.
A special thank you to Bill Meekins and to all the volunteers on the golf course, at the
dinner and at the auction who helped make the Golf Tournament another resounding
success. Bill is my elk of the month for September for his awesome job as Chairperson of
this annual event. Remember your Obligation-Remember to Volunteer.
See you at the Lodge.

Elks National Foundation (ENF)
“The mission of ENF is to help Elks build stronger communities. We fulfill this pledge by investing in communities where Elks live and work. We provide tomorrow’s leaders, our youth,
with lifelong skills; honor the Elks pledge to never forget our veterans; …..and fund projects that improve the quality of life in our communities.” To that end, Chestertown Elks Lodge has in the
past year provided the following for our community of Chestertown and Kent County:
Freedom Grant: Hosted 10 veterans from Perry Point for a day of fishing on the bay and dinner upon return. Elks members served as charter boat captains, assistants on the boats and chefs for the dinner.
Beacon Grant: Provided 100 back packs to students in Kent County schools. The back packs were filled with school supplies. Elk members helped stuff the back packs and delivered them to Kent County Board of Education for distribution.
Gratitude Grant: This grant was awarded after our Lodge met the Grand Exalted Ruler’s
(GER) Goal of $4.65 per member (2015-2016) to put back into ENF. It was given to Meals on Wheels to provide meals to seniors and/or disabled citizens of Kent County.
Chestertown Lodge is attempting to reach the GER goal of $4.65 per member for 2016-2017. Currently, our per capita is at $2.45. We need $2.20 more per member to meet the goal. Please donate each time you see a fund raising project for ENF. Every dollar that you give will eventually go back into the community or give back to veterans. To help, please support the following functions:
1. Meat Loaf Dinner on Friday, October 2. 2. Raffle of “Thirty-One” products. Tickets are $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00. Come to the lodge
to see the items on display beginning October 1.
You can also give a donation at any time.
District Deputy Official Visit on Tuesday, September 6, 2016
You are invited to visit with John Ramsey, the District Deputy for Northeast District of the MD DE DC State Association on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. All the lodges in the District look to the District Deputy for guidance and help with issues if necessary. John will give an overview of where our lodge stands regarding membership, ENF goals and rate our accomplishments with respect to Grand Lodge programs. This Lodge is Your Lodge, This Lodge is My Lodge, This Lodge is Our Lodge. Please support it at this important meeting.
