    New slot s for infants and toddlers were createdin Ki ngma n County Kansa s due in part to grants,in centives a nd on e-on-one coaching with a Child Care

    Aware Infant/Toddler Recruitment Specia list.

    This law increas ed protections for Ka nsa s childrenand supports families in making informed child carechoices. Since the passage of Lexies Law, KDHE hasfocused on transitioning all existing registered homesto licensed, as t he la w elimi nated the registeredfamily day care home category.

    Lexies Law requi res th e Child Care Licensi ngProgram to develop additiona l hea lth, safety, andsupervision regulations for the protection of children.

    E-Learning ProgramBeginning in 2010, early childhood professionals couldaccess trai nin g onlin e, an ytime through Child CareAware of Ka nsa s.

    The Playground: An Onlin e CommunityOfficially lau nched i n Ma rch 2010, Th e Playgroundis an online commu nity for all audience s to receive

    up to date information and conn ect with other local

    professionals.

    KACCRRA becomes Child Care Aware ofKansasAfte r 20 yea rs, KACCRRA retired its name andadopted th e new n ame of Child Care Aware ofKansas.

    Infant/Toddler Recruitment ProgramThe Infant/Toddler Recruitment program increased slots in Kingma nand Harvey Counties for infants and toddlers in 2010 Participants in thisprogram received grants, training, observations and one-on-one coaching

    from the Child Care Aware Infant/Toddler Recruitment Specia lists.

    KQRIS is a 5-Sta r qua lity rati ng system for child care centers, preschools,Head Sta rt facilitie s, faith-based preschool programs and family child

    care homes.

    Participati ng child care programs rece ive a compreh en sive assessmentthat results in a 1-5 Star Quality Rating with 5 Stars as the highest possiblerating.

    The PlaygroundOpened in 2010, the Playground is

    Child Starts online community thatallows parents, providers, community,and Child Start staff to interact,sha re information and stories, andlea rn about local events.

    Currently, the Pla yground hasover 150 members and rece ives anaverage of 300 visits a month.

    Technical Assistance and Coaching (TA)Child care professionals may run into

    situations that are diff icu lt to resolve. ChildCare Aware Specia lists he lp them tacklethe se situ ations and answer questionsto help provide a high quality learni ngenvironment for children of all age s. The

    Growing With Children & Directors Chair Conferences

    Child Care Aware and Early ChildhoodDirectors Orga nization (ECDO) come togetherto bring the largest annual early childhoodconference in K ansas. This is Child CareAware of South Central Kansa ss an nualfundraiser.

    Over 300 early childhood professionalsattended the 2010 Growing With Childrenand Directors Chair Conference. This event

    offered 27 se ssions for attendees to choosefrom.

    Over $8,000 was raised from this event forChild Care Aware.

    I enjoy attendi ng theconference every year!

    The food is great, alongwith the vendors, and I enjoy

    being able to get 6 hou rs ofin-se rvice all in one day!

    The above funders rece ive funding from mu ltiple sou rces and pass them on to Child Care Aware. Th esesources include K ansa s Department of Social an d Reha bilitation Services, Ka nsa s Childrens Cabinet andTrust Fund, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Early Childhood Associate Apprenticeship Program

    and ma ny other gen erous organizations a nd individua ls .

    Self SupportIn addition to grants, Child Care Aware rai ses income to cha nnel back i nto the program through th efollowing programs and events:

    Child Care Aware of South Centra l Kansa s is one of 7 in dependent Child Care Resou rce & ReferralAgencie s (CCR&Rs) providi ng services to all 105 counties in K ansa s. CCR&R is the nationwide in itiativethat promotes and supports th e availa bility of afforda ble, qua lity child care and ea rly learni ng services.

    Child Care Aware of Kansa s is the admin istrator of the statewide ChildCare Resou rce and Referra l (CCR&R) network in Kansa s. They supportfamilies and early childhood professionals all across Kansas through the localCCR&Rs.

    CCR&Rs document child care needs and trends by...

    Acting as ma in sou rces of information about local supply and demand of child care.

    CCR&Rs bridge child care and education by...Providing valu able techn ical assista nce conta cts to communities a bout the i mporta nce betweenearly learning and later success in school and by sharing written material.

    CCR&Rs improve th e quality of child care by...

    Supporting providers by offering p rofessional development events on diverse topics su ch asinteractin g with children, child growth a nd development and sou nd busi ne ss practices.

    Reaching out to providers with techn ical assista nce contacts du ring on-site visits, phoneconversations, ema ils an d through written mate ria l.

    CCR&Rs support families who raise healthy children by...
