• Overarching Healthy Weight Framework, plus food and physical activity plans

• Midwives/health visitors

• Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school Scheme

• Vale of Glamorgan Network of Healthy Schools

• Dietetic supervision into Barry Communities First nutrition agenda

What are the key challenges?

• Maternal obesity dietetic service is a gap

• More pre-school settings need to be engaged in Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school Scheme

• Need a whole nutrition approach across Flying Start/Families First/Communities First

• Need Senior Leadership Team support for the National Quality Award in schools

• Need a children’s obesity service (level 2 and 3)

Recommendations

The Healthy Living and Social Care Scrutiny Committee is asked to:

1. Note the progress to date

2. Support the 10 Steps to a Healthy Weight roll out

3. Further support the Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school Scheme e.g. through time-in-kind

4. Support the NQA award in schools

5. Support a whole nutrition approach in the Vale

6. Support the development of Level 2 and 3 obesity services for children
