Our School BES is a neighborhood school that was founded in 2009 as a Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school in the Steele Creek Community; with about 400students from the Berewick community. BES consistently meets or ex-ceeds growth expectations and shows proficiency gains each year, keeping pace with state averages across the board. Our unique partnership with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation allows our facilities to include a full-size gymnasium and stage, as well as a recreation office and multi-purpose room.

Our Students BES has a current enrollment of 815 students and cele-brates rich diversity with a demographic makeup of 45% Black, 17% White, 25% Hispanic, 8% Asian and 5% Multi-racial. We are not a Title 1 school.

Our Staff Among the faculty, 36% hold advanced degrees, 41% have more than 5 years experience and 25% have presented professional development on a range of educational topics at the district and state levels. BES has 62 staff members broken into the following cate-gories:

3 Administrators, 2 Facilitators, 2 Counselor, 40 Grade Level Teachers, 5 Special Area Teachers, 6 EC/ESL Teachers, 1 TD Teacher, 12 Teacher Assistants and 2 Secretaries

Our Programs BES offers basketball, Dance Team, Student Council, Girls on the Run, Math Olympiads, National Junior Honor Society, Extended Day Support, in-house field trip experiences, Community Activities and After-School Pro-grams

Our Culture At BES we focus on a culture of responsiveness to instruc-tion, where each child’s educational, behavioral and emo-tional needs can be met using a variety of resources and supports. Our instructional culture is focused on date-driven decision making to ensure that each student meets their individual growth goals. Our School-wide PBIS plans provide incentives to encourage positive choices from our students.
