Drama• Children’s TV dramas have been

around since the 1950’s however the plots and themes are continuingly adapting due to societies expectations of what a drama should consist of.

• Define drama: ‘Dramatic programming is television content that is scripted and (normally) fictional. This excludes, for example, sports, news, reality and game’.

Children's TV drama today works well when these key GENRES are used:

Children are victorious- The best Children's TV Dramas are said to be those that

revolve around children as they become victorious when in competition with their opponents (usually adults).

Action adventure- Another common features of the best productions involve being able to expand the audiences imagination and creativity.

Comedy-However comedy is included in many drama’s for example M.I.High where young students are shown to be in a constant battle against evil in the form of aliens.

Our production •We have decided to create a Drama which appeals to a wide audience by incorporating both girls and boys.

•Today adults have also become consumers of children's TV as in our busy lifestyles children are exposed to more television than ever before. However often adults join their children in watching TV.

Time

• This production would be shown on cbbc at 5.00 for 30 minutes on a Friday evening. Through screening the drama at a consistent time every Friday, younger children will be aware of when the drama is aired despite been unable to tell the time as it will become established as part of their routine.

Target audience

• It was then made obvious that our production had to revolve around children from ages 8-14 to attract the audience whilst giving them characters to aspire to as this too has proven to be an important feature in any genre production.

Narrative• We have decide to create a ‘scripted’ reality show,

portraying a land without adults as children had to fend for themselves.

• Our production will be focused on a group of mixed young friends dominated by one character who takes on a superior role.

• Throughout the drama they will take on adventures and overcome a range of contemporary problems that can only be solved when they work together in a team, this promotes the importance of value and team work.

• To maintain a sense of continuity which will enable the audience to follow the small story lines the characters will remain the same as will the main setting (the forest where their den lies and where their mischievous plans take place).

Colour scheme • Although children take an interest in bright and dominate

colours we have chosen to predominantly use greens and browns which reflect the woodland.

• These colours are also practical for the main theme and

narrative.

Mise en scene

• The main setting will be in the forest were the children encounter numerous problems.

• This setting has become a contemporary theme amongst children's adventure dramas, on the other hand by choosing this setting we have differed from the traditional conventions of all children been afraid of the forest by expanding the imagination of children.

• On the next page is some sample pictures taken from different locations we have researched.
