For Lisa and Taylor...

...my adventurous travelers who embarked on a journey not only to explore and experience a foreign land and culture, but to serve the

victims of the 2008 Sichuan Province earthquake.

May you always remember your profound experience walking the Great Wall...

Never forget your partnership with Chinese families in helping them rebuild their homes.

They will be forever grateful...

China has the world’s oldest continuous civilization. There are over 50 different nationalities living in China. The Chinese word for “China” is Zhongguo which means “Middle Kingdom”. The Great Wall of China was built during the Qin Dynasty (221-206). Chinese people are peaceful, hardworking and easily contented. They respect elders and love children. In general they are humble and reserved. They believe in harmony...as you will see on the following pages...

My sincere gratitude to our host, Li Wei who exposed us to the “real China”. Thank you for the wonderful exotic meals...the shopping trips...the antique “buys”that we made. It never would have occurred without your generous time and effort.

To my husband, Lee...hard working and affording us this invaluable travel opportunity...

To Mat Doyle at Heron Graphic Arts for continued patience and advice...

and finally to Lisa Morris Martin, my daughter, whom I love so much...
