The present map shows the flood delineation in the area of Baghabari (BANGLADESH). The basictopographic features are derived from public datasets, refined by means of visual interpretation of pre-event images (Landsat-8).Thematic layers, assessing the delineation of the flood event, have been derived from post-eventimage COSMO-SkyMed © ASI 2014 (acquired on 23/08/2014 11:30 UTC, GSD 15m ) provided by e-GEOS S.p.A. All rights reserved). All satellite images have been radiometrically enhanced, orthocorrected with RPC approach (usingSRTM elevation data). The estimated geometric accuracy of this product is 15 m CE90 or better, from native positionalaccuracy of the background satellite image (valid for an optical images, to be adapted in case of aSAR image). The estimated thematic accuracy of this product is 85% or better, based on previous experience inusing high-resolution SAR for flood extent delineation. Please be aware that the thematic accuracymight be lower in urban and forested areas due to known limitations of the analysis technique.Only the area enclsed by the Area of Interest has been analyzed.Map produced on 24/08/2014 by e- GEOS under contract 257219 with the European Commission. The products elaborated in the framework of current mapping in rush mode activation are realized tothe best of our ability, within a very short time frame during a crisis, optimising the available data andinformation. All geographic information has limitations due to scale, resolution, date and interpretationof the original data sources. The products are compliant with GIO-EMS RUSH Product Portfoliospecifications.
Delivery formats are GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, GeoJPEG and vectors (shapefile and KML formats).Starting from 10 August 2014 the northern part of Bangladesh and upstream Indian states of Assam,Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim have been experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall, causingrising water levels of the major rivers. As a result, some low-lying areas in the Northwest along theBrahmaputra river have been inundated. The map shows the current extent of flooding and shall helpto assess its potential impact on the population
