The effective date was 1 May 2013. CONSUMER GOODS AND RETAIL On 29 June 2012, the Standardisation Administration of China (SAC) and the State Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) published the mandatory standard GB 28480: 2012 ‘Adornment – Provision for limit of baneful elements’. The standard has been in effect since 1 May 2013. Under the new standard, a number of chemical requirements are specified for metal components in both adult and children’s jewellery products, including heavy metals content and nickel release. The standard also indicates that if specific national standards or requirements for toxic elements are applicable for materials other than metal, such materials are obliged to comply with these standards. The standard has, from the effective date, a 1-year transitional period for the requirements for arsenic, mercury, lead and chromium (VI) content for non- precious metal jewellery and ornament products. CHINA - MANDATORY STANDARD IN FORCE FOR JEWELLERY The China National Standard for jewellery GB 28480-2012 specifies a number of chemical parameters for both children’s and adult jewellery. The effective date was 1 May 2013.
