Across the globe, mobile computing is becoming more popular than ever. Not only are people everywhere using their smartphones and tablets to stay connected with friends and family, they’re using their devices to stay plugged into work as well. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), a total of 79 million Chinese smartphones were shipped, representing a year-on-year growth of 120 per cent. Mobile devices like tablets and smartphones are being shipped at a much higher rate than laptops and desktops, and as such, the cloud computing industry is growing faster than ever. Yet, as cloud uptake increases, bugs and system flaws become more damaging. Although cloud computing is heralded by many experts as the way forward, the fact of the matter is the more critical data that’s stored online, the more companies have to lose. Given that, it may seem surprising that bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies are becoming increasingly common, as such a solution makes data protection and risk management even more difficult.

Because of this trend, demand for IT security has reached an all-time high, and continues to increase with each passing day.

Research manager for IT Security Market Research in IDC China, Pei Wang, said: "Emerging technologies for the third IT platform, including cloud computing, big data, mobile and social network will lead the future growth of the IT security field." As the so-called third IT platform increases exponentially, so does the Chinese IT security market’s potential for future growth.

Keeping data accessed through mobile devices safe and secure represents a real (but manageable) challenge not only for IT security providers, but also for companies, too. By seeking to improve the connectivity of their offices – including the corporate headquarters, home offices, branch sites and the emerging roaming office – enterprises must prioritise security if they’re to create a successful cloud solution. For this reason, Chinese exports of mobile devices (which are primarily used as cloud access points) are growing in conjunction with the IT security field.
