Chinese Guest Teacher Program

Chinese Guest Teachers Qualifications

Three or more years of teaching experience

Teaching certificate in China, i.e., licensed to teach in China

Standard Mandarin (Putonghua) Certificate

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in education, Chinese, English,

international studies, or related fields

Top candidates from an outstanding teacher pool

recommended by the Chinese government

Proficiency in written and spoken English

Chinese Guest Teacher Visa Status

•Teachers will be on a J-1 exchange visitor visa hosted by the International Institute of Education (IIE).

•The guest teachers may work in the United States for up to three years, after which time they are obligated to return to China.

Chinese Guest Teacher Compensation

Total compensation= Hanban stipend+ District

compensation (partial salary and/or benefits)

Guest Teacher annual total compensation should be

commensurate to that of a U.S. teacher with similar

responsibilities and education in the same district.

Hanban pays a monthly stipend ($1000/month+$1000

extra for the first month) directly to the guest teacher.

Three Compensation Structure Options:

 Option 1: Commensurate compensation package = Hanban stipend ($13,000) + partial salary from school/district

Option 2: Commensurate compensation package = Hanban stipend ($13,000) + partial salary from school/district + value of in-kind housing and/or transportation benefit

Option 3: Commensurate compensation package = Hanban stipend ($13,000) + value of in-kind housing and/or transportation benefit
