It was quite appropriate that the start of the new
year saw lots of new learning happening in
school. All Year groups have immersed
themselves in their new topics ranging from
Egyptians to World War 2. Nursery and
Reception have also been welcoming in visitors
from the community who all help us in some way
which links to their new topic. Year 3 have
started their weekly swimming lessons at
Westminster Lodge, another new and exciting
experience for them.
Reception parents have been in school for the
next Building Blocks session and Year 2 parents
joined us on Thursday for class assembly. We are
also very grateful to the parents who turn up
each week to hear readers or to cover an early
morning or after school slot in the library. There
are a couple of slots that we need to cover if
anyone else would like to be involved and I am
still looking for a family who are up for keeping
the pond in order—full training provided! Please
do let the office now if you can help and we will
get the necessary paperwork underway.
Art is one of our priority areas this year in school
and it is so lovely for that to be reflected in this
newsletter. The children are feeling much more
confident in their developing skills, in drawing
and painting, and we also have our Arts theme
week at the end of this term to look forward to.

Please can we remind everyone that Camp School is a “mobile phone free zone.” Phones are not
permitted anywhere within the school, this is for the safety and privacy of the children and their
learning environment.
Year 2 treated us to the first class assembly of 2020. They shared their photos of themselves as astronauts
reaching their goals, which they created using Purple Mash. They also shared space facts, recited a
poem and sang a funny song about the planets.
YEAR 2 Journey to Space
Chinese New Year
The children in Nursery and Reception have been
celebrating Chinese New Year with some cooking.
Year 1 marked the Year of the Rat by working with
Mrs Downey to produce some Chinese Characters
using gold paint pens.
YEAR 4 ART
The Year 4 children have been focussing on self
-portraits in their art lessons. They have used
different shades of the same colour to express
an emotion. It has been combined with Design
and Technology to build their own frames. All
of the children were able to saw, glue and
paint their wooden frames.
THE BLITZ!
Years 5 and 6 have been very invested in their
WWII topic this term. They have been learning
about The Blitz and how many children were
evacuated to the country side for their own
safety. Year 5 had a very exciting morning where
they re-enacted an evacuation complete with
air raid sirens. A small group of children had to
leave immediately to complete their work in the
safety of the “bomb shelter.” They then wrote a
detailed news report on what happened in The
Blitz from different perspectives.
Thank you again to all of our parents and carers for responding so well to our new system of drop-off and
pick-up for after school clubs. Patience with new arrangements is always very much appreciated.
PASTELS AND WATER-
COLOURS IN YEAR 4
The children used water colour techniques,
pastels and cling-film. Elodie said, “We used oil
pastels to draw the picture, then covered it in
watery paint, then put the cling-film on the wet
paint to make a pattern.”
YEAR 6 GOES TO
VICARAGE ROAD!
The photo above shows Year 6 children
participating in the 2020 Premier League Primary
Stars Tournament. They had a very exciting day
competing against other Hertfordshire Schools in
their 4G training ground in London Colney. It was
a great success, with the team coming 3rd in
their group and they even got a chance to meet
Watford and English National team player
Nathaniel Chalobah.
Sports events have kept lots of the older children
busy in the last couple of weeks—football, indoor
athletics and a cross country event last Saturday.
Year 4 have also been perfecting their speed
stacking skills and are off to compete in a
competition on Wednesday. We wish them lots
of luck!
