Main Oil Shale Producer in China

Fushun It consist of two formations.

One was found coexist with the coal. It was deposit of Eocene age and called Guchengzi Formation. The formation ranges from 20 to 145 m and averages 55 m in thickness.

The second one is Jijuntun Formation which come from the same age. The thickness ranges from 48 to 190 m.

Main Oil Shale Producer in ChinaMAOMING

Maoming basin located at southern of Guangdong Province. Oil shale of Maoming distributed in Dianbai, Jintang and Gaozhou mine region. Two main formations being produced are Youganwo and Shangcun. Normally the average yield of Maoming oil is about 6 – 9%.

Recoverable Resources is estimated as 16.9 Billion ton

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China• Fushun, Liaoning Province• It was beginning as early as 1930 with the

construction of refinery no.1 and refinery no.2 in 1954.

• It was estimated that 300,000 tons of oil shale was produced from this region. In 2009, 400,000 tons were produced and In 2011, the production was becoming 650,000 tons/day.

• Open and underground mining are chosen for its simplicity and not expensive process

• Conventional Oil retorts was previously used before starting adopt ATP (Alberta Taciuk Process) in 2008

• Side product of oil such as shale ashes are being used as raw material for cement and construction bricks

2008

2010

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Huadian, Jilin Province• It was estimated that 50,000

tons of oil shale was produced in 2010.

• Circular fluidized bed and Fushun retort were successfully installed in this region

• Side product of oil such as shale ashes are being used as raw material for cement

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Wangqing, Jilin Province• It was estimated that 30,000 tons of oil shale was produced in 2007 ad became 50,000 tons per year in 2010• Open pit mining are chosen for its simplicity and not expensive process • Oil content is 6%• Fluidized bed reactor is applied here

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Longkow, Shandong Province

• In 2010, it produce 60,000 tons of oil shale per year.

• Total there are 40 Modified Fushun retort until 2011

• In 2011, the operator adopt Galoter Particulate Retort technology from Estonia

Page 17: Chinese Oil Shale Activities

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Yaojie, Gansu Province• It is using a square gas

combustion system with dimension 3 m x 6 m x 7.5 m

• It can process 300 tons/day• Grain size is 8 – 60 mm• Oil shale recover is 80%

Fiscer Assay

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Beipiao, Liaoning province

• It produce 50,000 tons per year using 40 Fushun retort

• Oil content is only 5% (lowest among others province)

• Open pit operation

Page 19: Chinese Oil Shale Activities

Main Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Maoming, Guangdong province• Circular fluidized bed is installed in 2008 to

generate electricity 420 MW which is equal to 6 million ton/year oil shale

Another Oil Shale Facilities in China

• Daqing, 2000 tons/day using solid heat carrier• Harbin, Heilongjiang province, 2000 tons/day

using fluidized bed• Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang province, 1.2 million

oil shale per year and produce 100,000 tons oil products. Total oil shale reserves is 46.2 million tons.

Fluidized Bed Reactor• The fluidization is the

state where the solid particulates (3-7 mm) move apart from each other and is kept individually suspended by passing gas at a certain minimum velocity.
