The end of the year is here! I can’t
believe it. I know I say or think this every year about this time…where did the year go?! It has been my pleasure to serve you as the principal at Carlton Oaks School and in knowing you and your children. We have the best students in the world! In this last newsletter article, I’d like to provide you a couple updates as we close out the year and start the new school year.
1. Students in grades 3 – 8 completed all State testing by May 29. Any testing we do beyond that date will be for students who were unable to complete the tests in May. Parent score reports will be mailed home this year and I would expect these reports sometime toward the end of August. The score reports will look very different than results from the past. Students will receive an overall score as well as achievement levels within English language arts and math standards. Sample score reports can be found at the following web address: http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/ag/ag/yr15/documents/mar15item03a1.pdf 2. Kindergarten Parent Orientation
will be held the day prior to school
beginning on Tuesday, September 1st
from 9-10 a.m. Parents will receive
placement information prior to that
day through a note home.

The kindergarten teachers would like the parent orientation to be attended by parents only, if possible. Students would then attend the first day of school, Wed., September 2nd all day, 8:30 – 2:20 p.m. 3. First day of school for the 2015-
2016 school year is Wednesday, September 2nd. We believe, but it hasn’t been confirmed, that class lists will be made available the evening prior by logging onto our website with the school class placement code. This code will be sent home via school messenger to all enrolled Carlton Oaks families a few days prior to the posting.
Have a wonderful summer. I’m sure to see some of you on a soccer field somewhere in the County or at one of the many amazing attractions San Diego has to offer. See you next school year!

Shelly Kowalsky is this year's Volunteer of the 2014-2015 School Year at Carlton Oaks School. Shelly plays a very active roll at the school by volunteering in the classroom, being a room parent for several classes, serving as a reading tutor through our Everyone a Reader program, being an Arts Attack docent, and sitting on the PTA. This past year,
Shelly spearheaded our used shoes fundraiser, Shoes for Heart, to raise money toward the school's new performance risers. We are so appreciative of her help and support for this necessary equipment! In addition, Shelly is a PTA membership chair, selling the school's spiritwear, and attending ALL PTA events; helping set-up, serving food to families, and staying late to clean up after the events. Like many amazing volunteers of the year before her, you would assume Shelly is on staff…she is visible on campus every day! Thank you Shelly for all your hard work and service. It goes without saying how very much we appreciate all you do! Congratulations!
It’s so hard to believe that yet another fabulous year is
coming to a close. It has been a year of a few new firsts and also some tried and true traditions, but through it all we have grown closer as the Carlton Oaks family. We so value the many people that help to make our school the successful and thriving place that it is. As we enter into these final days of this school year, we have a few more things to look forward to and to plan for. Please be mindful of these upcoming events and also the importance of having your child at school each day so that they can participate fully right up until the last minute. On Tuesday, June 16th at 9:00 am our 8th grade students will be celebrating their
promotion ceremony. Because we are expecting a lot of extra traffic on this day,
we are asking those that are able, to walk to
school that day as parking will be at a minimum. We appreciate you trying to ride share, walk, or even arrive to school a little
early to help us keep our parking lot flowing as smoothly as possible. Thank you and
Congratulations to all our 8th graders!

Carlton Oaks students displayed some amazing art work at our annual Arts Attack Night
of the Arts. Families were also able to view the art during our raining day lunch on the lawn. Thank you to all the docents who volunteered their time to teach art to our students each month, and help set up the art for the show. If you are interested in becoming an Art Docent for the 2015-2016 school
year, please contact DeAnna Tritthart at (619) 994-8820 or [email protected].
Thank you and have a Wonderful Summer!
Thank you, or as they say in Hawaii Mahalo, to all the Dad’s & Daughters who joined us for the 2015 Father Daughter event. I hope you made memories to last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who supported us with donations, set up and clean up. Without you these events would not be possible. Thank you also to anyone I might have missed. Your support made this a night to remember!
