About meA young designer seeking to create connections between people and places.

The main theme I explore in my work is human psychology and how design of an environment can influence a person’s perception and behaviour. I am a curious person, always analysing the world and formulating ideas.

My work seeks to explore where art and design intersect with science, with an increasing focus on emerging technologies.

My interests extend to creating cultural spaces where different artists from light through to music and performance collaborate to create sensory rich experiences. This extends to the design of cities and how the design of urban environments impact the different aspects of the people living within them, from social to mental wellbeing.

I am the product of a highly visual, well travelled, culturally diverse and open minded generation. I am seeking any opportunity to continue learning and apply my skills and offer ideas where possible.

This project explores how alternative forms of lighting design in conjunction with urban design could enhance experiences in public urban spaces.

The lighting of urban environments could be designed with a greater sensitivity to the emotional and behavioural responses of people. Lighting design plays a significant role in the design of urban spaces as it can be used to promote way-finding, visual comfort and personal safety.

‘Lélé’ is the proposed lighting intervention for a space located in Footscray, Melbourne. ‘Lélé’ explores how a network of reactive lighting could be used activate a neglected urban space giving it a new sense of life

Lele uses sensor technology to read different environmental cues which alter the lighting visual in real time. Like a living organism, lele adjusts and responds to the different cues being ambient light levels, motion, time, temperature and humidity. This creates a lighting environment in a constant state offlux.

Scripting the ExperienceDifferent prototypes were used to translate the imagination of the designed experience into a communicable concept. This was achieved through the illustration of visuals, experimentation with Arduino technology, experimentation with material and light qualities, and the construction of scale models to fully grasp an understanding of the desired lighting effect.

The construction of scale model helped in gauging an understanding of how to arrange the network of light, understanding the qualities of illumination within the space and gaining an understanding of how the space may be experienced from different perspectives.

Environmentally Reactive TechnologyA key feature of this design project was the exploration into sensor technology. Open source programming software was explored with the aim of creating a light which is self automated and responsive to the environment. The different sensors act as inputs which trigger the visualisation to evolve depending on the environmental factors, ranging from changes in temperature to humidity, as well as the presence of people walking within the space.

Co-organiser and creative director of A Club Called Trish a Melbourne Music Week event as part of of the 2015 Self Made program of Melbourne Music Week and and the 2016 Gertrude St Projection festival.

The creative love child of a group of electronic music artists, industrial designers and light artists with a dream of creating a space of visual transcendence and aural immersion where balearic sounds meet an Australian bush aesthetic. This is a unique take on the Melbourne club experience.

Our collective continues to experiment with lighting technologies in conjuction with unique electronic music artists and performers to create a platform for these emerging artists.

The primary material used to create the form is epoxycast resin. The LED light piece is placed inside the central cavity illuminating the form and the surrounding space with a warm orange glow.

RMIT I.D Thesis PublicationGRAPHIC DESIGN

An industrial design thesis exploring the historical nature of lighting within cities and public space. The aim of the thesis project was to explore alternative ways of using light as a mean to activate neglected public spaces.

YellaProduct design

A study into fibre and metal led to the design of this stool. The design developed from sketching to life size models, a 1:1 CAD model to help guide construction of the

chair.

Yellow rope fastened within the steel structure provides seated support for the

user as well as braces the overall structure.

Lit.Product design

This lamp design was an exploration into traditional craft and open source sensor technology. This product was produced using glass blowing methods and Arduino programming technology. The vessel was designed in collaboration with the Philip Stokes glass studio.

The Arduino system controls a set of LED lights which are responsive to the ambient light change and movement within the room. The light source shines through the surface of the glass to create a complex light projection due to the refraction.
