As you arrive, you will be given a “gift” card and a pen! Welcome! We are silent for a while, remembering that God is with us……… Song Come on and celebrate! His gift of love we will celebrate- the Son of God, who loved us and gave us life. We’ll shout your praise, O King: you give us joy nothing else can bring; we’ll give to you our offering in celebration praise. Come on and celebrate, celebrate, celebrate and sing, celebrate and sing to the King (repeat) Celebrations and Birthdays What we are thinking about today….. The Wise men’s Gifts

We think about the things we have done wrong….. We say sorry: For the times we have been hurtful to others All Lord, we are sorry For the times we have not done what we should All Lord, we are sorry For the times we have done what we shouldn’t All Lord, we are sorry

Gold: Reading Psalm 19: The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the word of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the rules of the LORD are true, and completely good. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

On the gold card we have been given, we write: “What could we give Jesus as a gift?” Children will be invited to collect everyone’s card, and place them all in the manger on the chancel step.

Song Father, I place into your hands the things I cannot do. Father, I place into your hands the things that I've been through. Father, I place into your hands the way that I should go, For I know I always can trust you. Father, I place into your hands my friends and family. Father, I place into your hands the things that trouble me. Father, I place into your hands the person I would be, for I know I always can trust you. Father, we love to see your face, we love to hear your voice, Father we love to sing your praise and in your name rejoice, Father, we love to walk with you and in your presence rest For we know we always can trust you. Father, I want to be with you and do the things you do. Father, I want to speak the words that you are speaking too. Father, I want to love the ones that you will draw to you, for I know that I am one with you.

Frankincense: We go to the coffee corner ….to burn incense and to offer our prayers…………… Reading Psalm 141: O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Do not let my heart incline to any evil.

Song (as the incense is burned) As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after you. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship you.

You alone are my strength, my shield, to you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship you.

I want you more than gold or silver, only you can satisfy. You alone are the real joy-giver and the apple of my eye. You're my friend and you are my brother, even though you are a king. I love you more than any other, so much more than anything.

Myrrh: We go to the High Altar ….to be anointed Reading James 5: Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed.

We are anointed (to music and/ or singing) We return to the pews. The Lord’s Prayer All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Notices

Tokens at Waitrose: If you are doing any shopping in Waitrose during January, don’t forget to obtain some plastic tokens and put them in the “Christ Church” box! We are one of their charities this month!!!

Ash Wednesday/ Old Palm Crosses: Please hand in last years’ palm crosses or make sure they are put in the vestry. They will be burnt to provide the ash for Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is one of the most important days in the Christian Year. Please try to come to one of the following three services, all of which will include the ‘Imposition of Ashes’ (an opportunity, only if you wish, to have a cross marked on your forehead in ash, as a sign of penitence and re-commitment) Ash Wednesday, March 5: Christ Church, 10.00am Holy Communion [Holy Trinity, 6.30pm Sung Mass] Christ Church, 8.00pm Sung Holy Communion STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Will be every Wednesday in Lent at the 10.00am Holy Communion; and at Holy Trinity at 6.00pm every Sunday. On April 6, there will be Stations during the main services at both churches (So on that day, Holy Trinity’s 6.00pm service will be Vespers and Benediction). Donations of non-perishables to Food Banks: Thanks to Adrian Groves there is a large plastic box at the back of church for donations of non-perishable foods for local food banks, which are overwhelmed by demand at present. It is hoped we can keep the donations going, on into the new year……

The Church’s Front Garden: The Vicar, Churchwardens and PCC have discussed the state of the front garden and it has been decided to have it cleared of dead and overgrown items. If you have donated over the years any shrubs, plants etc; and would like to re-claim them then of course, please do so. As it is the 150th anniversary of the church in 2015 we would like the garden to look better kept. We are in the process of obtaining quotes for this. We are also being supported by “Gosport Voluntary Action” (GVA) volunteers whose help is much appreciated. Any donations towards the cost of this would be most welcome. Carol Brownlow is to contribute the money from her Sunday Tea Parties to this project. Weekend Retreat with the monks of Alton Abbey: We are having a weekend “Parish Retreat” (for people from both our churches) from 4.00pm on Friday 11th to after lunch on Sunday 13th July 2014. There are 20 places maximum (if 12 are willing to share) and the cost, full board, is £85.00 (so, you could put aside £2.25 per week from now, and pay on the day!). there is a list to sign, with options, at the back of church! “first come, first serve” A wonderful opportunity for rest, quiet, prayer and worship, delicious food, deepening of faith; with input from one of the Benedictine Monks.......

Used Ink Cartridges: Do put your used printer ink cartridges in the box at the back of church......they do raise some money for our church! Support for Sea-farers: Would you be willing to knit some balaclavas, gloves, mitts for sea-farers? See Kath Ford (our organist) for details, and for a pattern!

Our Memorial Book, Case and Stand: Our beautiful Memorial Book case and stand is near the War Memorial. The book is in memory of Marjorie Cawte; the case was given by the Revd David and Mrs Sheila Wood; and the stand was beautifully made by Vic Smith. Brian Mirfield uses his calligraphy skills to add names of departed loved ones. There is a fee of £10.00 per name, to cover the inscribing and a donation to church funds. Forms are available on the back table. Sponsoring the bread and wine on a Sunday: If a particular Sunday in the year falls on or near a significant date (perhaps the anniversary of a loved one’s death; a birthday, an anniversary, etc) you can fill in the details on the list in church, and please put £5.00 into the collection. Your name(s), and the dedication (s) will appear in the service booklet for that week. The list is on the board at the back. Church Cleaning: Please help keep our church looking clean on the second Saturday of the month. We start at 10am and, depending how many turn up, finish at about 11.30. We stop for a cuppa and a chat half way! The more of us, the quicker!! Even if you can only spare half an hour, every little helps.
