From the Pastor’s Desk

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. On this day we remember that Christ has taken his place at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. Let us detach ourselves from earthly plans and pleasures and set our sights on that eternal prize: life with Jesus forever in paradise. In the month of June I would like to implement two changes in the life of our parish. First, I would like to cease the practice of passing the collection basket at Mass a second time for special collections. My preference would be to have everyone place special collection envelopes in the basket along with their weekly envelopes for the parish. Our money counters will be able to separate the envelopes and make sure the funds are directed appropriately. Implementing this change will simplify both our liturgies and our money counting process. As far as I can see, the only drawback will be that no one will have the opportunity to give cash to special collections. All special collection donations will have to be placed in a special collection envelope or marked as such in the memo line on a check. (Please note that we will still pass the basket a second time for our BAA pledges on the first Sunday of each month during the Spanish Masses.) The second change involves the doors of the church. Parishioners currently have eight options when choosing where to enter the church. In the interest of safety, I would like to limit some of those entrances and use them for emergency exits only. There will still be plenty of ways to get into the church: the east and west doors of the main vestibule, the doors near the parish office, and the doors off of Dover Road. This change may cause a slight inconvenience at first, but in the long run the pros will outweigh the cons. I will do my best to explain these two changes a little bit more in depth before implementing them next month. To conclude this week, however, I would like to encourage you to pray for our parishioners who received their First Communion on Saturday afternoon, as well as those who will receive the sacrament of Confirmation this Wednesday. These are significant milestones for these young people, and they deserve our congratulations and support.

The day begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity for those who would like to learn more about their faith but are unable to come to Bible study during the week because of work. Desde el Escritorio del Párroco

Hoy celebramos la Fiesta de la Ascensión. En este día recordamos que Cristo ha ocupado su lugar a la derecha de Dios Padre en el Cielo. Desatémonos de los planes y placeres terrenales y fijemos nuestra mirada en ese premio eterno: la vida eterna con Jesús en el paraíso. En el mes de junio quisiera implementar dos cambios en la vida de nuestra parroquia. Primero, quisiera dejar la práctica de pasar dos veces la canastilla de la colecta en la misa para colectas especiales. Preferiría que ustedes pongan sobres para las colectas especiales juntos con los sobres y ofrendas semanales de la parroquia. Los voluntarios que cuentan el dinero podrán separar los sobres y asegurarse de canalizarlos apropiadamente. Implementando este cambio se simplificarán tanto nuestras liturgias como el proceso de contar el dinero. Hasta donde yo puede ver, el único inconveniente será que nadie podrá dar dinero suelto para colectas especiales. Todas las donaciones para colectas especiales tendrán que ponerse en un sobre para colectas especiales, o marcar sus cheques para esas colectas en la línea “memo”. (Por favor tengan en cuenta que seguiremos pasando la canastilla una segunda vez para la Campana Anual del Obispo el primer domingo de cada mes en las misas de español). El segundo cambio involucra las puertas de la iglesia. Los feligreses actualmente tienen ocho opciones para entrar a la iglesia. Registration for Parish School of Religion (PSR) and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) has begun. We ask that all first through eighth graders of the parish who do not attend a Catholic school participate in PSR.
