Box 158 Bertha, MN 56437 The tragedy which occurred in Las Vegas, this past week, was a deeply saddening event to me and many. It seems like yet another event, in recent history, in which we may be asking ourselves, “What is happening with the world today?” I do not know what is happening with the world today. I would imagine that it is something like what has happened so many times before. Indeed, none of us are strangers to tragedy. We all have been wounded, and we all are being healed. Strange as it may seem, I have found consolation in this: we still consider events like this to be both tragic and bizarre. What happened in Las Vegas was not right, it was not holy and it was not normal. It is consol- ing to me that, unlike many other evils present in the world (e.g. - abortion, the dissemination of pornography and the cultural normalizing of sexual sins, greed, etc.) our culture has not become largely desensitized to evils such as this. We still say, together: this is wrong! Our cultural conscious prods us to respond construc- tively to this past week’s destructive events, and our Faith commands that we continue to constructively be instruments of Christ who bring healing to a world that was already wounded. May God bless you. ~ Father Mitchell A word from the pastor, Father Mitchell Bechtold...
