CHRISTIAN DUTY

• Duty is a very important part of the Christian life. • Duty and privilege go hand-in-hand.

– Duty is defined as: • Conduct due to parents and superiors; • Conduct, service, or functions that arise from ones position."

– Privilege is defined as: a right granted as a benefit, advantage, or favor.

• Christians have many duties which are privileges, and certain attitudes and actions are expected of us. – In this two part series we will focus on 4 areas:

• What God has a right to expect of us. • What the church has a right to expect of us. • What our family has a right to expect of us. • What the world has a right to expect of us.

Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men

so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,

authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.

obedient, to be ready for every good deed,

we can (Gal 6:10). So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all

people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith

unstained from it (James 1:27). Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and

Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world

2:15). • The world has a right to expect that we obey its laws• The world has a right to expect our help when and where

we can (Gal 6:10). • The world has a right to expect that we keep ourselves

unspotted from it (Js 1:27). • The world has a right to expect that we will put Christ

and His church before it (Matt 6:33) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all

these things will be given to you as well

• Yes, we have Christian duties which are really privileges. – We have examined:

• What God has a right to expect of us. • What the church has a right to expect of us. • What our family has a right to expect of us. • What the world has a right to expect of us.

– We need to sincerely ask ourselves: "Am I fulfilling my God given duties?"

• Am I a Christian? • Am I living the Christian life?
