Our focus of the Nurture Division is to be intentionally involved in the
lives, concerns, issues, and needs of all Cascade members so they will
know they are an integral part of the Cascade family. Nurturing involves
fellowship: small group discussions, fun activities for larger groups, and
other actions to show our love and care. Central to this focus area is an
emphasis on discipleship: teaching each believer to develop a personal
relationship with God through Jesus Christ. A key strength of Cascade in
this regard is our numerous small group fellowships - - we seek to
leverage this strength by systematically including Nurture in these small
group activities. We seek to heal, teach and strengthen our members,
guiding them along their journey from new believers through discipleship
and beyond.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Covenant Bible Study is an in-depth group study centered around our rela-
tionships with God, with each other, and with the world. It emphasizes the
biblical concept of Covenant—the enduring commitment between God
and people—as unifying pattern throughout the entire Bible and
underscores the unique relationship that God chooses with His people.
The 24-week study covers both the Old and New testaments—discussing
books from each in a way that shows the interconnectedness of scripture as
a whole. Each session includes a 20-minute video conversation that
stimulates discussion and reflection among the group members. These
conversation serve as a model for the kind of learning and sharing that is
central to Covenant Bible Study. Through community—through shared
reflection and engagement together—we can best discover the Bible’s
transforming power.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
This Genesis Bible study begins with the History of Creation and ends with
the birth of Abraham, the father of many nations and our common ancestor.
Genesis is a name taken from the Greek, and signifies “the book of
generation or production.” It contains an account of the origin of all things
and some of the most famous stories of all time: Adam and Eve, The Gar-
den of Eden, Cain and Abel, Descendants of Adam, The Great Flood, De-
scendants of Noah, The Tower of Babel, The Story of Abraham. The Story of
Isaac, The Story of Jacob and Esau, and The Story of Joseph. There are two
main themes in the Book of Genesis: the people of God and the promised
land.
Facilitator: Authorine Pettway
Class Begins: Tuesdays, September 23
Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Materials: Holy Bible (Any translation)
The Book of Genesis
This book explores the relationship between the message of the Old
Testament and the gospel of the New Testament. It provides dramatic
insights for properly understanding just exactly what was accom-
plished through the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus.
This 6-week study will reveal the significance of the Old Testament. Many
Christians do not read it and they do not understand it. But, unless we
understand the Old Testament, it will be impossible to correctly
understand Hebrews. One of the keys to unlocking the message of
Hebrews is being aware of its symbolism. Delve into the Book of Hebrews
and discover the meaning of the term, “only begotten son of God,” and
what it means to be “made perfect.”
Facilitator: Rev. Terrilyn D. Lemons, Jeannette Ellison & Stacey McNiel

Understanding the Purpose and Power of Prayer
This 6-week study teaches participants to cultivate a personal walk with
God. The purpose of the course is to help participants (1) experience a
deeper, more meaningful relationship with God through prayer,
(2) develop a well-balance, prayer life, and (3) pray in unity and effectively
with other believers.
Facilitator: Gayle Gay
Class Begins: Mondays, September 22
Time: 7:00 p.m.—8:30 p.m.
Materials: Understanding the Purpose and Power
of Prayer by Myles Munroe, $12
The Book of Matthew
The Gospel of Matthew presents Jesus as the King of the Jews, the long
awaited Messiah. Matthew documents Jesus Christ's claim to be the
Messiah, his genealogy, baptism, messages, and miracles which all point to
Christ as King. Even in his death, seeming defeat is turned to victory by
the Resurrection so the King of the Jews lives.
In this 6-week course, we will study all 28 chapters of the Gospel of
Matthew. We will read three chapters every week and have group
discussions during the class. Bring your Bible and a Journal or notebook
and pen or pencil.

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you. Take your everyday, ordi-
nary life—your sleeping, eating, going to work, and walking around life—
and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you
is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your
culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention
on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.

A Christian Approach to Civic Governance
Special group studies are designed to address specific interests and needs
in our church family. Sometimes sistahs just need sistahs. Sometimes
brothers just need brothers. Married folk need married folks and no one
understands parenting until they’re blessed with the opportunity. We
desire to meet specific needs in spiritual growth in as many ways possible
at Cascade, because, “We can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens
us.”

Marriage should be based on love, right? But does it seem as though you
and your spouse are speaking two different languages? Author Dr. Gary
Chapman guides couples in identifying, understanding, and speaking their
spouse’s primary love language—quality time, words of affirmation, gifts,
acts of service, or physical touch.
By learning the five love languages, you and your spouse will discover your
unique love languages and learn practical steps in truly loving each other.
Chapters are categorized by love language for easy reference, and each
one ends with specific, simple steps to express a specific language to your
spouse and guide your marriage in the right direction. A newly-designed
love languages assessment will help you understand and strengthen your
relationship in this 6-week study. Come and join us as we strive to continue

Thursday Night Therapy Men’s Bible study will engage in comprehensive,
therapeutic study of the Book of Timothy. This is our time to exchange ideas
and share relevant experiences as we endeavor to increase our faith. Our
primary text will be the (KJV) Bible; however, other versions of the Bible
can also be used by class participants.
Thursday Night Therapy for Men (TNT)
In their on-going studies of the Bible, the men of TNT continue to explore
what it takes to be a man of God. In this study, men will gain encourage-
ment for what they can be in Christ - as fathers, husbands, and mentors to
other men. The study will help them to show the world how to live faith-
fully, lovingly and spiritually according to God's direction. Drawing from
Paul's letters to Timothy and Titus, the study will help men understand that
true masculinity isn't measured by a man's strength but by 20 Biblical
guidelines outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-10. Through life
applications and words of inspiration, this study will speak in practical
terms to men from every generation.

God's Women of Yesterday Speak Boldly to God's Women of Today - The
women of the Bible play an essential and crucial role in the eternal plan of
God. From heaven's point of view, women are always unique, matchless, and
irreplaceable--they are never to be found in a subservient ranking within
the kingdom of God. As this study shows, these Women of the Bible (Book
1) demonstrate the lofty ideals of faith and faithfulness, virtues and values,
brains and beauty, redemption and resourcefulness, servanthood and
sacrifice.
Through this detailed study, you will discover that God has called today's
woman to play a significant role in society, in the home, and the church. You
will learn from their mistakes and discover that the blessings of God are
heaped upon the woman who faithfully trusts the Lord in all situations.
Expect to come face-to-face with such questions as: (1) Do you take the
path of bitterness or the path of brokenness when faced with distress and
difficulties? (2) Have you learned that you cannot alter the past, but you can
put your past on the altar? (3) Does your heart belong completely to the
Lord or is there a mixed allegiance? (4) Has God used your adversities to
shape your character so it shines like pure gold?

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Women Of the Word is an ongoing Bible study specifically for women. As
you share and grow together with other sisters in Christ, you, too, will
experience the transforming touch of God’s love.
Women Of The Word (WOW)
The Gospel of Mark is the earliest written document on the life of Jesus. The story
begins with a brief description of the work of John the Baptist, forerunner of the coming
Messiah. Following Jesus' baptism, the Spirit of God rested upon Him, and from that
time forward Jesus dedicated his life to the work of preparing people for the coming of
God's kingdom. Soon after the arrest of John the Baptist, Jesus appeared in Galilee,
preaching the gospel and saying, “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe
the good news!" Mark concludes with a brief account of the women who went to the
tomb where Jesus' body was placed and discovered that Jesus had risen from the dead.
Throughout the gospel, Mark particularly emphasizes Jesus' humanity. More than half
of the Book is devoted to explaining the remarkable deeds that Jesus performed. Many
of these deeds dealt with healing the sick; however, Jesus never claimed to have any
special power that was not available to others. The miracles that he performed were
not meant to display any power of his own, but rather to show how the power of God
could be used in and through human lives. Jesus instructed his disciples that the works
that he performed they would do also. He even told them they would perform greater
works than he had done.
This ongoing study of the life of Jesus hopes to
draw participants into a closer relationship
with the Son of God who suffered and died for
us. It is a story that seeks to lead believers to a
“mountain-moving” faith in God, and to
motivate them to a truer calling. It also
highlights the nature of discipleship lived out
in the shadow of Christ’s cross and what it
means for us as followers of Jesus to be
“MARKed for Life!”
