As a little girl, my family had relatives that came to visit us on a regular basis from Italy. This was an exciting time, when we got to practice hospitality skills, share customs, and celebrate our similarities and differences. For the last 3 years, I have invited special visitors to our campus

so that our students can have a taste of that same valuable experience. This Friday, Hawkins will again host student ambassadors from Tracy’s sister city in Memuro, Japan. The ambassadors will be participating in classes with Haw-kins students and enjoying a special lunch with our ASB officers.

Don’t forget to join us for HPFC Movie Night on Friday! They will be showing the movie Trolls. Parents need to ac-company their children. Please see the code of conduct on the flyer below. This is not a drop off event. Admis-sion is free and concessions will be sold. Over the past couple of weeks, we have

seen an increase in peer conflicts, name calling and unkind behavior among students. We are working with students to make better choices and as always, follow the Golden Rule, by treating others as you would like to be treated. Please join our effort by reminding students to treat others respectfully, be responsible for their words and actions, and make choices that are safe. We want to work to-gether to ensure every student feels comfortable and secure at school and can focus on learning. If a student misses 2 days of school per month, they are missing over

10% of their school year! The importance of daily school attendance must start at home, stressing the value of a consistent educational experience. It is vital for the Jeffer-

son School District to build on this value, maintaining an essential partnership between school and home, to ensure punctual daily school attendance is a priority. Should your child need to be absent, California Education Code allows EXCUSED absences for the following reasons: Excused Absences: -Illness -Medical/Dental Appointment -Quarantine - Funeral of Family Member -To spend time with student’s immediate family member who is an active duty member of the uni-formed services. -Participation in religious exercise

Please call the school at 209-839-2380 if your child is absent for any reason. The parent/guardian of the student must phone or send a note to clear any of these excused absenc-es. The answering machine is activated after school hours for your convenience, and is checked at the start of the next school day. No call or note sent to the attendance office, stating one of the above reasons, will result in an unexcused absence. Failure to excuse your students’ absence will result in a recorded truancy on the student’s permanent record. Being absent for any of the following reasons will result in an UNEXCUSED absence: Unexcused Absences: -Personal Days -Going shopping -Visiting Relatives -Student’s Birthday -Oversleeping -Childcare by the student at home -Car Trouble -Vacation -Family moving from one home to another -Cutting school Education Code 4820: Students shall be classified as truant if absent from school without a valid excuse three full days in one school year, or tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combi-nation thereof. Such students shall be reported to the Superintendent or designee. (Education Code 48260)
